Enough is enough...its time out for the foolishness.

Alot of people are upset about Councilmen Michael Polensek's letter to Arsenio Winston the deliquent young man who's been arrested several times in his ward.

In his letter, Polensek called the african-american teen "dumber than mud"...a "thug"...and he said he would "go to jail or to prison...and frankly I don't care which one you get to first..."

First of all I believe Polensek was wrong, not in writing the letter to a young man who is without question heading the wrong way...but in using a negative personal attack.

Yes unfortunately Winston represents what's wrong with Cleveland's inner city, a young man who lacks respect and is seemingly out of control...but Polensek must remember who he is and what position he holds...and to write the letter on city letterhead is even more inappropriate.

On the other hand...Winston's mother should redirect her energy away from attacking Polensek and crying racism...and instead focus on working to save her son who is without question headed down the wrong track.

In his own way Polensek was trying to give the teen a wake-up call...but his words left a lot to be desired. Both Arsenio and his mother should take a TIME-OUT. Arsenio needs to wake-up and get his life together...and his mother needs to redirect her attention away from attacking Polensek...and instead direct her efforts in saving their son.

Sadly the reatlity is...at his current rate Arsenio "is" headed for the funeral home..or jail.

I have no problem with the letter. He only spoke the truth. And the fact that Arsenio's mother is more worried about what the letter said then about the way her son is headed in life, speaks volumes.

When politically correct takes presidence over value's, were in real trouble! I have more respect for someone that say's it like it is rather than putting a little sugar on it. Whats racist about the truth?

The problem with our society is no one wants to take control of their children. His mother should drop the hammer on this kid before it's too late.

It's about time someone spoke up and told the truth, and will not take any crap from any thug in his neighborhood!!!

As a young nurse, quite a few years ago, I had a patient that persisted in make sexual remarks, swearing, cursing and being generally hateful. I did my best to tell him that we treated him with respect and expected that he would do the same toward us. His behavior continued. One of our orderlies came by, whispered something into his ear and the behavior stopped. The man was friendly, happy and interacted respectfully. I asked the orderly what he said. He told the man, "If you don't stop acting like an ...hole, and start treating my nurse with respect, I will break your arm." I was young, dumb and naive. When the orderly saw my shocked look, he told me, "You have to talk to a man in language that he understands!!" I applaud Mike Polensek for being multilingual!!!

Wayne, I do agree with you that Councilman Polensek's language was strong and even crude. However I do not believe that he was wrong to have sent it. He wrote this young man previously, he tried to help him on other occasions and apparently his efforts were for naught. Ms. Wilson, the young man's mother, chose to bring this letter to the media because she was outraged by the language. What she has actually done has shown that there is a huge problem in many of our communities (not just her neighborhood)and maybe the councilman's letter was the kick in the seat that we all needed to start a dialog and hopefully DO something (ANYTHING) to change the tide. I hear her frustration and one can see that she tried to help her son , but he ultimately chose the wrong path. I heard no mention of a father in this home. This is also a reality in many of the troubled neighborhoods. Men need to step it up and become strong role models for their sons and daughters and for the other children in their communities. Otherwise, these children find role models in thugs and drug dealers. I hope that Fox8 ("My" Fox) continues this dialog and further goes on to spotlight youths who make good decisions as well as adults who are trying to make a difference to youths in their communities.

I don't think the letter was too crude at all. Young thugs need to be warned of their actions at their own level, and it needs to be direct and to the point. We've danced around the problems long enough, and look at where it's gotten this city. Enough is enough, and it's time to stop worrying about the "bad guys" and their feelings getting hurt. This kid doesn't care about you, me, or his city. He needs to have a wake-up call, and a rude one might actually open his eyes to how the good citizens of Cleveland feel about his type. If nothing else, the publicity should open his and his mothers' eyes to the true feelings of their fellow citizens.
