Ellen should be praised for giving the dog that she adopted a good home. These dog rescue groups go way overboard on their rules and rights and contracts etc.  It is a DOG for pete's sake!  Once a dog is adopted they should have no rights to say what happens to it,  if abuse etc then courts will deal with it, but here is Ellen finding out  she cannot keep the dog and , doing the  rescue group's job, was responsible to find it a good home so they wouldnt  have to. Then the group harrasses her!  If i were  her I would be suing them for harrassment and mental anquish!

I have gone to petfinder to find a pet and the contracts, rules etc that these groups expect people to go through is why  there are so many animals in shelters, it is almost worse than  adopting a child!

I hope that  that little girl gets the dog back, and that maybe courts etc will start looking into the way these groups  adopt their animals out.  it is just plain harrassment!

oh and i will never go to a shelter or rescue group for a pet, the contracts, cost are outrageous, i want a pet, not someone harrassing me and hounding me ( no pun intended) if i break their contract. Look in the want ads, there are plenty of pets needing a home, and many are FREE

Oh I agree with you. It's not like she dumped it off on the side of the road. She loved it, trained it, had it fixed and found a loving home... too bad for their contract! How many dogs are euthanized at these places because they've ran out of room for them?

High end breeders do the same. When you buy a pet quality animal from them you pay top dollar and they expect you to sign a contract stating that you will have the animal spayed/neutered, and you will not have puppies. I didn't intent on having puppies anyway but I was so mad at the idea that after paying a huge price for this dog they would tell me what I could or couldn't do. So I just didn't buy the dog.

exactly i think there needs to be some sort of regulation or something to protect the buyer from such harrassment, otherwise, many, many animals are just going to die without families, and isnt that what these organizations are trying to prevent. Funny way of showing it!

she gave it a good home and then found it a good home. no harm done!! if someone tried to take my dogs i would end up in jail. my two dogs are part of the family.ellen did nothing wrong and the adoption agency are nothing but thugs looking for media attention.

if ellen originally got the dog sept 16 as she stated and gave it away and the family really bonded with the dog... How Long Did Ellen Even Try To Acculate The Dog To Her Routine Before Giving Up and passing it off to the first person she coould find to take the little pup.( maybe a week?) Maybe the adoption agency set up their policy to prevent non-dedicated people from adopting on a whim like ellen did. thats what the story sounds like to me anyway.

Ellen once again shows that she cannot make up her mind . Why get the dog in the first place . Thank God it wasnt a child , try the child out if it doesnt fit in my life give it to someone else.Ellen stated that she has rescued other dogs so she knew the drill. Ellen signed the contract ,she could have taken the dog back and told the rescue agency that she didnt want the dog ,but knows of someone else that wanted the dog .Ellen has used the media to bring about threats of harm to the agency. Ellen has taken a dog that has already been removed from harm to be moved around again .Ellen has money buy the little girls another dog ,she created this mess and she should clean it up .She is not crying because of the dog being taken .She is crying because she was caught , her life partner better watch out she might trade her in when she doesnt fit into her life .

I will only go to shelters for my animals and I don't mind paying the $60.00. How could you say it is only a dog, it is a living thing. The reason why shelters have so many rules is because there are people out there who will get the animal and a week later get rid of it.

The rules need to be in place and I agree with all of them. When I adopted my cat I had a phone interview with someone and talked to the people in the shelter. I was very impressed with how much they cared about their animals to take the time to learn about the person they are giving it to.

What you are paying for when you get an animal from a shelter is all the food, medecine and everything else needed to take care of these animals. They are declawed, spayed/nuetered, all their shots are given to them, dewormed. So $60.00 really isn't a bad deal. I would pay $100.00 even.

These places help out animals a lot and want to make sure they get good homes so they can continue helping other animals and not have the ones they gave to people come back.

Now I love Ellen and I know she loves animals and maybe she should try to work something out with the shelter. As an animal lover she should also realize that there are many people out there who are not responsible and should abide by the rules.

PLEASE EVERYONE DON'T LISTEN TO UDDERLY ABOUT SHELTERS. THEY ARE GREAT PLACES TO GET ANIMALS AND HELP ANIMALS A LOT.

i am sorry let me correct myself. i am not against shelters Please go to shelters to get pets but I AM Against their contracts that make them think they have control over what happens to the adopted animal after it is adopted. That is what I am against. Once I adopt a pet they need to butt out of my business. That is why I would never go and sign a contract to get a pet. If shelters want to really adopt pets out, then they need to cut their ties once the pet is adopted. if afraid of abuse, do better screening ahead of time, but once that pet goes home, it should be out of their hands and no longer their business. They are living things yes, but they are not children who do need such regulations and protection. With all that is going on in the world today, the child abuse etc. that kind of strict contracts should be in place, but even then there is a point to cut the apron strings.

udderly are you kidding me? Sure there is a lot of child abuse and I am all for making sure that doesn't happen but there are no rules for animal owners really. Those do need to be put in place. I have animals an those are my kids. I would do anything for them and that is how all pets should be treated. No they aren't humans but they still should have the same protection. There isn't an animal out there that doesn't deserve being protected.

The whole situation is sad but rules are rules and especially with animals. People have no regard for animals, just like how you said it is only a dog, not a kid. Sure they are living things but not a kid. That is why animals need more protection and contracts and rules. Maybe if people would have a different attitude about animals then the rules would change.

well i too am an animal lover, having 2 dogs, a lizard and a fish. and growing up on a farm my heart breaks when i hear stories of animal abuse and neglect etc etc.but i would never put an animal's rights over or on the same level as a person's. When i think of all the money etc that goes out to "save all these poor animals" that are abandoned, when kittens and puppies are a dime a dozen, when there are children starving, going homeless, not having proper clothing etc it makes me sick. or spending countless dollars to save a terribly sick or wounded homeless animal
yes we need to have compassion for God's creatures, but never before people.
I am so tired of righteous people putting animal rights above peoples and that is why I will never sign a contract to own an animal, i will never put someone else incharge of my rights to own and raise a pet. I love my pets but once i adopted mine, from petfinder.com want ads, i was free and clear.
it is unfortunate that so many think they have the right to tell the few who would like to adopt, what to do, how to do it and when to do it.
I love animals but they are animals, they are not people. they do deserve to be treated with kindness and love, and not be abused. Contracts will not prevent that no more than foster parent evaluations will stop them from possibly abusing the children under their control.
Contracts are just a way to try and control people.

I think that this whole story is nuts! Why didn't the lady just check out the new family and deal with the contract being broken between Ellen and herself! To take a puppy from a perfectly good home, ridiculous. And who would want to adopt it after all of this anyways?

Then the lady had the nerve to cry on the news because people are sending her nasty emails!lol! What did she expect?

I don't believe Ellen was crying because she got caught either, exactly what did she get caught doing that's so sad? I believe she was crying because she blamed herself for the heart ache of two young children. What a messed up world!

Wow I feel bad for all your animals then.

When my cat was sick because he was getting crystals in his urine because of the store baught food, well he almost died. The night we noticed he was really sick was that blizzard we had a few years ago and it took us an hour to get to the 24 animal emergency room at 11:00 at night, which should have only taken us 10-15 minutes. Well we got there and they said he can be fixed for $500.00, you better believe I wrote a check out for $500.00 for him to get better and now we have to spend about $60.00 every couple of months to buy him special food. So I guess I make you sick, but my cat is happy and you can tell he is so happy that we were there to help him.

What makes me sick is someone who can look at an animal and just say it is only an animal and let it die without doing everything they can. I could never look into the eyes of any of my animals and say sorry it is just to expensive, you are going to die. If you can then you shouldn't have animals.

"The contracts, rules etc that these groups expect people to go through" is NOT why there are so many animals in shelters. It's because people don't take proper care of their animals. Like spaying and neutering. This is the sole reason so many animals are in shelters. Those of us who are responsible enough to take proper care of our animals eleviate reproduction so no more animals are taken to shelters. For those who say, "It's just a dog for pete's sake" are people who shouldn't have animals, period. We are not above our non-human counterparts. Humans are the only hope animals have for care, protection and companionship.

What a media circus! For God's sake, she gave it to a good home who loves the dog! It's not like she left it under a bridge or something!
