My DAUGHTER WHO IS A FRESHMEN JUST INFORMED ME SHE WILL FAIL GYM CLASS BECAUSE SHE COULD NOT RUN A MILE IN 10 MINUTES. i REALLY DO NOT AGREE WITH THIS POLICY. SO NOT EVERY KID CAN RUN A MILE IN TEN MINUTES. SHE SAID MOM MY CHEST WAS HURTING SO BAD, NO WONDER THEY HAVE KIDS JUST DROPPING OVER DEAD. HELLO WHY WOULD THE TIME MATTER INSTEAD OF JUST BEING ABLE TO DO IT. WHO CARES HOW FAST YOU ARE AS LONG AS YOU DO IT. I WAS JUST WONDERING WHAT OTHERS THINK ABOUT THIS.

My niece just told me the same thing the other day. She has a D in gym for the same reason. I remember having to run in gym class to. I never could run for long distances either. I think some people just are able to and some are not.

One of my kids had a similar issue. So for two weeks I trained with them. I taught techniques I had learned as a runner (was a runner for 22 years) that would allow them to work up to that 10 minute mile in a short time. In the end they passed. Funny, after that episode, they hated running but today that child is an adult runner just like dad. Runs three miles every other day.

Whatever happened to the school policy of getting an A just because you made an effort? Where is the self esteem in getting a D because one is not an athelete?
And while we're at it the shool policy of giving out birthcontrol pills to elementary students simply underlines my contention that our schools are out of control.
Our schools business is supposed to be reading, riting and rithmetic. That's what they should concentrate on.

I believe it is totally uncalled for an F BECAUSE A CHILD CANNOT RUN A MILE. Give me a break, as long as the child shows up everyday and does their best, Not every child can do it.
So lets just bring their self esteem down and embaress them by flunking the class. I THINK THEY GOT THIS ONE WRONG !!

I am very strict when it comes to my childrens education. I allow them only one C on their report cards because i realize everyone has one subject they will not be so good at any more than that tells me maybe they are not applying themselves as they should be. It is one area I do not let up on with them amd they know this and have maintained the standards I ste for them.

I have always been very positive with my children however I sit here and ask my self why is my daughters self esteem so low where did I fail and as iI think back on what I have done and What other things have taken place as far as her self esteem goes I think I undersatand it now.

When my daughter was in 3rd grade she brought me home a paper and said mom I do not know why this is marked wrong when it is right. I said okay bring me your book and I looked up the answer and sure enough she was right the answer was right but the teacher had marked it wrong. So I started checking all her papers with answers marked wrong after I had accumulated a few papaers like this I made an appointment to meet with the teacher and the principal. So the teacher looked at the papers and said yes they are right I do not know why they are marked wrong. However they refused to change her grades telling me it would not make a difference in her letter grade.HELLLLO.....

Another problem was the timed multiplication test. My daughter and I stayed up til one in the morning she was crying I was crying because she could do them all until i set the timer, as soon as I set the timer she would only get half way through

And I am like what is wrong how can you do the in one minute when the timer isnt set but you cant do them when it is set.Needless to say I felt terrible afterwards because i realized she would buckle under that kind of pressure. Does it mean as an adult she would not be able to handle pressure absolutly not. This is a child not an adult. There is a difference

Another thing she played baseball from t-ball til juniors.Well in juniors she was made to sit out 3 of four inngings and this is a kids leauge instructional leauge. SHE was the only child to sit out.So I complained and they said she must watch and learn I was flabbergasted I said i certainly do not have to pay for her to sit and watch I can have her do that for free she has played for 5 years and she is not good enough well my daughter heard all this and needless to say she has not played since. She doesnt want to she doesnt feel good enough.I am sorry about my spelling i am very upset and angry.

In school sports they allow alot of children to make the team but what tends to happen is they always allow more than they need. At a price of course. Then the ones who actually are not athletically inclined gets to ride the bench!!!!!! I totally feel this is uncalled for. I personally feel it's far more embarrasing to sit the bench all year than to be cut at the beginning and get it over with.

... Wernerd630.. the time should not matter.. as long as they can run the mile, is what should matter. Not everyone can run a mile in 10 mins. I THINK THE PARENTS SHOULD CONTACT THE SCHOOLS ABOUT THIS.

Maybe the parents are to blame.

ricky, not nice......

hybrid had a good idea, if your kids are not making the grade (in ANY subject), then work with them, train them, teach them how to work hard to succeed!!!!

no, not everyone is cut out to be an athlete,(physically) that is true. there is sooooooo much more to athletics (team sports in particular) than most people are willing to see. I coached for 15 years........there is so much more to it than athletic ability.

ing,and just hanging out.
