Down our lane there is horses that are in terrible shape and because of OHIO law I can get NO help for these starving animals. I did call ASPCA and was told their hands were tied because of these laws. The best they could do is TALK to the owners, nothing else. They couldn't go look at the horses and the conditions they are living in.. I can not believe in this day and time there is NOTHING that can be done.

My husband I had been feeding these horses since before Christmas, till about 2 weeks ago when the owner put them in the barn so we couldn't feed them. I gage on a scale from 1 to 10  and 10 being the worst. At least one of these horses is a 10 1/2.

I don't understand how this can be allowed to go on but it is and I am just sick about it. Maybe someone out there can explain the reasoning WHY Ohio law would allow  this.

I know, the current laws suck!!
I would say, try calling the TV station. There is nothing like media attention.

What county are these horses in? If in Portage, I would call Happy Trails Animal Sanctuary, but I'm sure other counties have places like this. I too would let the news know. Heck, take pictures and send them to Dick Goddard.

I would love to take pictures of the horses but they are now kept in the barn and we can't get to them.

Man, we are hearing about a lot of these cases this winter. The hay shortage has jacked up price to 6.00 a bale or more.
Looks like some people just won't dish out the money and are letting their horses starve.
Its becoming a big crisis.

I believe the house number is 15367 Lincolnway W.. It is not displayed on the house, It is a red run down house next to a antique and card trading place. Off 30 on 172..

But we did buy some hay for these horses and were feeding them twice a day. The owners then took the horses out of the pasture and put them in the barn. I believe they put them in so we couldn't keep feeding them. At that time there was one dead horse laying in front of the stall.. it was there for a long time and nothing done about it.

Thats very nice of you.
I'm just saying that I believe there are more cases like this now because of the cost of hay.
I checked and did not find any horse rescue places (on the internet) in Stark, Summit or Portage counties.

A dead horse? Can it be seen? I can't believe the ASPCA would not come out for that!
Maybe the health dept. If there is a rotting corpse, they might do something.

The dead horse it gone now, but it was there for a LONG time. It was there when I called the ASPCA. I don't think they even went out to talk or look. The barnowners & others is under Animal Protection in the Stark County phone book. I'm just hoping I will get a call back.

Here is one in Ravenna

They took some horses in from a similar thing a couple of weeks ago.
Maybe they can steer you in the right direction.

I think I'm going to take a ride past this place this weekend, something sounds fishy about this, all these phone calls and nobody comes out, there was nothing wrong with our horse and happytrails came out three times on us, the person that called on us use to be our friend and then turned on us, funny how some people do it for spite.

If you call any of these places they will show up, believe me these people are not shy when it comes to animals and abuse

quarry you have to admit this doesn't sound right at all...

I know a lady who works at Happy Trails, so if you don't get any where with Barnowners, post it here, and I will talk to her for you.
