I am writing about something that has been bothering me alot, well and it has affected my family recently and I wonder if any one may have a suggestion.. When some one has a felony on their record,,done their time for their crime,, and it was when they were stupid and young, how do they get a job. No one wants to hire a person with a felony,, no mater what it was for,,no matter what the degree it was,,and that person now has a family to support and care for but can not find a job,, well he had one delivering pizzas, but that hardly paid to keep the lights on in their house, much less the rent, and my Daughter works full time and has to pay day care and everything else, only making alittle over minimum wage, and they have 2 children, and no one will hire a felon. I just do not get, you do a crime you do the crime,, but you pay for the rest of your life, in more ways than one. I know that I am not the only one with a family member in the situation, I have a good friend who's son is in the boat, made a big mistake when he was just 18, and is a felon and can not find a job to help support his daughter. I do not know that there is anything that will ever change this but I just had to blow off steammmm, it really gets on my last nerve to see my daughter struggle so hard and go without so much, and her boyfriend try so hard and get no where. He is not the stupid did who screwed up,, and all he needs is a chance.. where do people go to get that???????

Hi Terrihere - I 100% understand what you're talking about; my husband is a felon, because as a human, he made some stupid mistakes. He did his time as well, went through the whole probation thing, everything. When he first was released (he only did 5 months, he didn't do anything major, or harm anyone) .. he got LUCKY and got a job making decent $$ in our area. ONLY because they were a small time business and desperate for help. He ended up losing his job. We were living on just my income for 4 months. It was tough. The toughest time of my life, financially. He just FINALLY got a job, he started 2 weeks ago...how you ask? Through a temp-service. I know it kinda stinks b/c usually the temp services don't offer the best jobs, but it's really somewhere to start. They matched him with an employer that doesn't care so much about your background. PLUS another thing we've found is that a lot of factory based employers are willing to hire felons because they get a tax break or something like that (if I'm not mistaken) ...so my advise, try your local temp office. You really might have some luck :) I truly hope things look up for you, and sorry for writing a book!!! ;)

My ex husband was a felon, did time at Marion correctional and he did hurt someone. He found his first job after being released thru Manpower & the company liked him so well that they hired him full time after the 3 month temporary job was up. As moonersgoddess said--it was a factory and I do think they get some kind of a tax break or something.

The important thing is that he doesn't give up. He needs to keep looking and go to some of the temp agencies. I wish him the best of luck.

ps. It's hard to get a good job nowadays for anyone, not just people who have records.

keep your head up. First of all you can exspunge your record as long as you did not murder, grand threft, robbery with handgun, pedifile, or kidnapping. Check with your local courts. And as long as one does not have any other felons. Start there. Now, the only people that can open the file, is medical and police and courts. NO one else can. Unless the employer has the computer and to pay for that type of background checking. very expensive and usually do not buy into that. It is hard, because I believe in god and had a hard time with this almost similar situtation. God forgives you for all sins and tells you he forgives all your sins and inquities no more. Although, man's world does not. Being in the medical field you have to have a clean record. WEll, I worked at a place for a year and told them about my record and mind you this happened years ago. WEll, somehow the office did some looking for something and after a year of work called me in the office and told me I was fired because of my background. even though I told them what happened the very first day and on my application. They said I slipped through the cracks somehow!!!! I was devasted. I had a good paying job and secure...Well I thought. I was devasted, cried for a week. Well, I have since then exspunged my record and the only people like said is the medical can check into it. You always say you have criminal record and they cannot hold that against you. Just tell your spouse to be honest and somewhere out there someone will give him the chance. It is depressing, yet we do pay the consequences

Thank you all for your insprition and help, I will pass this on to my son-in-law. He did not harm anyone or anything with a weapon, just stupid theft or something like that,, I will tell him about the temp. services stuff and hopefully they can help him. I know how hard it is to get a job now days,, I do the hiring at my company and have tons of people come here to apply,, but of course our corporate office will not allow felons either, so I can not even help him.Hey hillbilly67 how do you go about exspungeing your record? That sounds like a good idea. I am sorry to hear what you went through with the lose of your job that does not seem right,, but then companies can do what ever they want,, most of the time, if you are an "at will employee" and have no union to help back you.

terrihere, he needs to go to the county he was charged with. he can go to say like it was in cleveland, justice center go to the public defenders office to get the papers and file them, usually costs $50.00. If that is where he did the crime. good luck.
I did that years ago and fine now.
