Do you see the same pattern with the Indians and the Browns that I do?

Last year, both the Indians and the Browns had good seasons.  What did both teams do during their off-seasons?  They both figured that they could rest on their previous season laurels and do very little to improve to get to the next level.

The Indians watched a few players leave and only picked up two players.  Yes, injuries to Travis Hafner and Victor Martinez didn't help, but there was little depth until they were out did we find out that Kelly Shoppich is a very good catcher and Ben Francisco was really ready out of spring training to play with the Indians instead of waiting until late May-early June.  Also, I still feel that if Astrubel Cabrera played every day instead of sending him to Buffalo he could of been this year's Dustin Pedroia instead of making a late season push again to stick with the team for next year.

As for the Browns, its early yet...but when Donte Stallworth goes down yet again with an injury and you lose a key person in your defensive line and no depth because you didn't pick up anyone that could help.  Well, the Browns need to pick it up now and beat Baltimore on Sunday or it will end up looking like a replay of what the Indians did for their season.

Tem, I think I can explain what happened to both teams this year. Cleveland started players that should have been on the disable list, and got a bad start. They are playing well now due to the players getting healthy and from some of the trades they made. The Brown to me is more complicated; I personally feel that this is a head coach problem. The Browns can’t seem to keep anybody important healthy. They had one bad game against the Cowboys and did well against Pittsburgh. I still have not counted out the Browns this year. I look forward to the Indians as being the team to win and make the playoffs in 2009. God bless and have a great day, Karl.

Regarding the Browns, you could be on to something. I heard the same thing on WTAM on the way to work (yes I do listen to WTAM in New Hampshire after dark). Kevin Keane was saying some of the same things that you said. They may need to look at a coaching change at some point soon.
For the Indians, Matt LaPorta might help in a year once you figure out where you will play him. I'm not that impressed with the Jackson kid. The others will be wait and see what happens. At least the triple A team will be a short drive down Interstate 71 in Columbus.

I was born and raised in Ohio and graduated from Ashland High School. I'm a big Cleveland sports fan as well as the Columbus Blue Jackets. I keep up with the Indians and the Cavs on WTAM. I also love reading online newspapers as that is the main way I keep up with what is going on in Ohio. I am a conservative that relies on websites like the Ashbrook Center and talk radio to get most of my news of the day. I live in Derry, NH; and work at a postal facility in Nashua, NH. I go to Manchester, Providence, Pawtucket, and Portland, Maine; to watch minor league baseball and hockey to relax and to see the future major league baseball or hockey players.
