As the New England region had yet another parade for the NBA Champion Boston Celtics, I was listening to a local sports talk show about how the other teams support each other during their seasons.  For example, you had some of the Red Sox and Patriots going to Celtics games, and then there are some Patriots and Celtics players going to Red Sox games...and you know where I'm going with this.  For years, the Bruins have been owned by Jeremy Jacobs from Buffalo.  All of the other major teams (including the Revolution) are owned by local groups.  The Bruins are the only team out of the four major sports that has not won a championship for a long time.  I feel that the fans relate better to teams if there is local ownership and they see players from other teams supporting each other.

By the way, if anyone else noticed that the Portland Pirates will no longer be the Anaheim AHL team but the Buffalo Sabres will make the Pirates their new AHL team.

Tom, I am not a big Hockey fan but certainly would love to see the Bruins back on top. How much does the strike of a couple of years ago hurt them? Losing a whole season had to have some effect on fans.

I couldn't agree more. All the local owners were / are fans of the other local teams, too.

A businessman from Buffalo just doesn't understand teh passion of this city

I used to watch the bruins never missing a game until the late 80's, after 1990 more games went on cable and I stuck with my rabbit ears! I also got upset when the Sanderson and Cusack team retired, they were always fun to listen too.

Well, I really don't think the strike hurt some places like Detroit, the New York metro area, Philadelphia, and other places besides Canada like it has in Boston and Columbus. Boston's ownership haven't had a clue since the 70's in building a sucessful franchise. I am very encouraged that at least Columbus is going in the right direction. Hopefully they will do extremly well in memory of John McConnell who passed away within the past few months.
I do watch the Bruins, and I also go see the Providence Bruins once or twice a season the past couple of seasons. I'm very happy with the renovations that the Dunkin Donuts Center...as it will be a nice facility. Hopefully the Civic Center in Portland will go through some renovations at some point.

I was born and raised in Ohio and graduated from Ashland High School. I'm a big Cleveland sports fan as well as the Columbus Blue Jackets. I keep up with the Indians and the Cavs on WTAM. I also love reading online newspapers as that is the main way I keep up with what is going on in Ohio. I am a conservative that relies on websites like the Ashbrook Center and talk radio to get most of my news of the day. I live in Derry, NH; and work at a postal facility in Nashua, NH. I go to Manchester, Providence, Pawtucket, and Portland, Maine; to watch minor league baseball and hockey to relax and to see the future major league baseball or hockey players.
