Barack Obama said Friday he would be willing to support limited additional offshore oil drilling if that's what it takes to enact a comprehensive policy to foster fuel-efficient autos and develop alternate energy sources.

He flipped so hard on this one he had to go back to the doctors because he injured his hip again.

Whats up with Nancy sourpus p-u-low-see turning off the lights and kicking out the reporters in the lobby, I guess she doesn't want anyone to see how childish she is. wasn't she the one that said she would bring everyone together in congress.

The New York Times article is a must read to understand why Obama changed his stand and why Nancy turned out the lights.

super, that picture is PRICELESS LOL LOVE IT!

on THIS particular issue, i can understand obama's flip flop. he's not really interested in the relief from the gas pump, he's made that crystal clear from the beginning. what he's doing is jumping on the "popular" bandwagon to get more press.

it doesn't matter whether he supports this or not, as long as it gets done!

But It does matter, the only way we will get it done is if he agrees and the rest of the Dems follow their leader, It will not be done until after congress comes back from break in September, And the Dems will try and take full credit for it.
I can't wait to see the spin on this.

Obama only has one more flip to flop on and that will happen soon.....

Would Pulling the plug on C-SPAN be a violation of FCC code, This would be sweet because Nancy sourpus P-U-LOWSEE could end up with a fine or even better yet jail time LMAO....

I'm not a huge fan of either "major" candidate, but I'm gonna have to stick up for Obama on this one. Read your original post again....He said he'd be willing to support LIMITED offshore drilling (i.e. as a COMPROMISE) if that will help get a few Republicans on board to pass a new energy bill that will open the doors to develop more alternative sources of energy. He's not flip-flopping here; he's trying to compromise to pass the legislation that he wants to see. As far as increased offshore drilling itself goes, don't get too excited. You won't see cheap gas because of it, even 10 years down the road, or however long they say it takes to affect the market.

If all this offshore drilling DOES help 10 years from now, you'll be thrilled to know that our $12/gallon gas will drop to $11!! That's some return on those $billions$ for the new rigs. I'm sure the oil companies won't mind.

Keep drillin' boys!!

just wait super, Obama will probably come out and say we never understood what he said before. (He will say something like)I didn't mean not drill off shore. I always supported that and was part of my plan going through congress. I always said we need a comprehensive plan for fuel. But we know that he was against us have anything cheaper. He has money, so was not important to him.

We all just need to come out against Obama. Cause if he does win the election, we in trouble all the way around.

Erock327 I'm sure you already know he has said that he wouldn't pass anything that has to do with drilling for oil, and now he is willing only because we the people are speaking up and if he doesn't agree with drilling it could cost the election, I agree with the fact that we need to be careful about it but it is a must, we can not do complete 180 degree turn on what runs our cars and trucks over night and I would have to blame this on our government, they knew this day would come yet they would let the oil and auto industries line their pockets.
When oil went up in the 70's they knew then that we needed to change and did nothing to help except take money from the lobbyist.

really whiteneck? you know my hubby? then give your number to HIM..............LOL

super, you are correct. it's not one or the other's fault, it's the entire congress dating back to the 70's.

now we have this "gang of 10" that have a good plan, that addresses all the different forms of energy, today & in the future. 10 guys, not 10 dems & republicans, 10 guys. they seem to be able to transcend the politics as usual.

and what happens? the republicans WANT to hear it, WANT to discuss it further & WANT to vote on it. they are left in the dark, in an empty chamber waiting for the dems to come to the table. all the dems were interested in was their vacations. which, by the way probably won't be the "stay cations" that most of the little people are doing........and keep in mind, they earn their paychecks off of OUR backs.

A bipartisan coalition of U.S. Senators, known informally as the ‘Gang of 10’, unveiled a compromise energy proposal. The bipartisan plan aims to reduce gas prices, lessen the dependence on foreign oil, and strengthen America’s economy.
The gang of ten are senators and they agreed on voting for this after the break, it has to get at least 60 yes votes in senate before congress gets to vote on it and as we all know it will fail in congress, Nancy will not even let congress vote on an energy bill, not until after the election because Nancy is hoping that Obama will win, then all the Dems can take credit for the bill.

BTW congress only has an approvl rating of 9%

Superbrowns, you're making my point for me. The reason Obama is willing to "change" his stance to allow limited drilling is to open the dialogue w/ the Republicans. Also, if we had REALLY learned our lesson in the '70s, we'd already be driving on something other than petroleum. It wouldn't have been cheap or easy, but by now I'd bet the farm that we'd have something much cleaner and better to fuel our country. Regardless of the cost, we can't let our economy's health depend so heavily on a commodity like oil. It's price is much too fluid to sustain any kind of continuity. I don't care HOW MUCH we drill...It'll still be an uneasy market, the Arab-Israeli conflict isn't going to end anytime soon, and Hugo Chavez will do what it takes to keep oil prices high....He's already said that. It's an international market, and China & India are using exponentially higher amounts of oil. The only difference would be that OUR oil would be just as expensive as "theirs."

erock, yes Obama has said that he would "change" his position on drilling here. and then the very next day he's back to the "windfall tax" baloney on the oil companies.

doesn't make sense, once again.

history has proven that the "windfall" tax thing DOES NOT WORK! it actually makes things WORSE!!!!

"The reason Obama is willing to "change" his stance to allow limited drilling is to open the dialogue w/ the Republicans."

Can't agree with that. The reason he has changed his stance is that it's been revealed that 67% of the country favors lifting bans on offshore drilling. It's known that the biggest issue for Obama thus far has been on energy policy. He's put his finger in the wind and is making a typical politicians U Turn. At least it's a turn in the right direction.

"Also, if we had REALLY learned our lesson in the '70s, we'd already be driving on something other than petroleum"
Maybe. Or we could have continued to drill domestically to create total energy INDEPENEDANCE. We could have continued to develop Coal to Oil technology along with Shale production.

"the Arab-Israeli conflict isn't going to end anytime soon, and Hugo Chavez will do what it takes to keep oil prices high...."
Hugo Chavez is a non factor if he is no longer able to use lowball discounts that the other companies cannot afford. He owns 6% of the countries refineries and could paralyze our economy right now if he shut them down for 90 days. If we produce domestically he becomes a non-factor. Then the boycotts can takeover. It's Chavez's effect on OPEC that makes him dangerous. Take OPEC out of the equation, and Chavez is just another competitor.

HMMMM!!! Lets just say I am making your point EROCK327, and lets just say that Obama is giving in to the Republicans and he is willing to support LIMITED offshore drilling (i.e. as a COMPROMISE).
Now lets say Obama gets elected and we have terrorist holding hostages is Obama going to give in to their demands (i.e. as a COMPROMISE). where do you think that will get our Leader???
BTW It sounds to me like you have already made your choice for your vote.

TheGalvestonSurge, That is the point I was trying to make I guess I wasn't clear enough, thank you for you words.

If Obama flips on everything he says what do you think will happen when or if he becomes President

that is right he only changed his stance on drilling off shore for votes. If he wins we are in trouble and will be broke and probably going to the unemployment lines with his current voters.

He is a liar. The truth is far from his lips. He only tells you what he thinks you need to hear for your vote.

Just say NO to Obama!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Here's one for ya, Obama came out Monday and said something about a Clean energy plan, I read it and it sounds just like what the senate was talking about Friday before the break.
I guess if you don't have your own plan you just steal someone else's.

Superbrowns: I told you that I'm not sold on either candidate. I AM NOT PROMOTING OBAMA FOR PRESIDENT. Do I need to type slower for you to understand that? Just because I poke holes in your attack doesn't mean that I support the man. It's funny that Gorbash and Ricky always accuse me of being a neocon, and you've got me pegged as a Democrat. I must be doing something right...

Trying to compare negotiating w/ Republicans to negotiating w/ terrorists is absurd. Not the most insightful comment, to say the least.

If you don't like Obama, by all means, vote for McCain or whoever floats your boat. Obama may flip-flop on some issues (He has), but I don't consider this a "180" by any means.

This is nowhere near as big of a flip flop as McLame has made. The moron Republicans love to call Obama a flip flop because he changes his mind on Iraq. It's called following the current conditions. Unlike McCain, who is dead set on staying in Iraq for 100 years and refuses to budge on the issue.
