WASHINGTON (CNN) -- President Bush lifted an executive order banning offshore oil drilling on Monday and urged Congress to follow suit.

If President Bush can persuade Congress, more oil rigs like this one off Canada could appear off U.S. shores.

If President Bush can persuade Congress, more oil rigs like this one off Canada could appear off U.S. shores.

Citing the high prices Americans are paying at the pump, Bush said from the White House Rose Garden that allowing offshore oil drilling is "one of the most important steps we can take" to reduce that burden.

However, the move is largely symbolic as there is also a federal law banning offshore drilling.

"This means that the only thing standing between the American people and these vast oil reserves is action from the U.S. Congress," Bush said.

Do you think this is a coinsadince after President Bush lifted this ban on drilling, the Oil prices started droping in price, but it will not last long if the Democrats keep acting like children, all they need to do is lift the ban on federal law and oil prices will drop even more.

Sooner or later even the moonbats are going to catch on to the fact that the democrats are out to lunch. Even my 86 year old father appears to finally be getting it. He spends 6 months up in Mass. and the other 6 months in Florida. Last year to heat the house he didn't even live in cost over $1700.00. This year it will be about $3000. What part about supply and demand don't these nitwits understand? I just don't get it. Obama continues to say drilling is bad, bad, bad and the wackos jump with glee. I'm convinced No Child Left Behind was at least two generations too late.
Drill early, drill often. Let's keep American dollars here in America. Defeat socialism. McCain/Romney 08

No, let's develop alternative fuels. You've heard what REPUBLICAN OIL MAN T. Boone Pickens said. "We cannot drill our way out of this problem". Even the oil man gets what the rest of the Republican party doesn't.

Until then, I will cut back. I will NEVER condone destroying the environment for selfish reasons.

I 'll say one thing, Do not listen to a Billionaire who made his money in OIL and screwing others on those deals. I don't need to drive as much as I need to keep from FREEZING in the Winter. Use Natural Gas and see where the cost goes. Look at diesel and propane. We CAN drill our way out of this NOW. We CAN also find a way to end our dependence on fossil fuels, but that is in the distant future. Men, like Pickens want to make Billions off of us, wind power is a Joke, Solar is a Joke, a very expensive JOKE. Nuclear and other innovations will come, but most of us will be broke by then. As soon as the Powers in Congress, the Rich and Famous find a way to keep us from getting ahead, then we'll get something!! Keep using our food for fuel and we will be in big trouble.

Wind and Solar are NOT jokes!! Offshore drilling that leads to oil spills and destroying natural habitats are the SAD JOKES!! We CANNOT drill out of this.

Wind power works. I can already see it: a line of windmills along Lake Erie's shore. Providing lower-cost electricity to customers in NE Ohio. Saving money there takes some of the financial burden off people, freeing up money.

Solar power works. I've seen several reports about it. Imagine your electric meter spinning BACKWARDS. Solar power adds electricity to the power grid.

Nuclear is a joke. A DANGEROUS JOKE. Would you want a nuclear power plant in YOUR back yard? I sure as hell don't. I'm not taking that chance. No mini-Chernobyls in this country.

hd: Of course Pickens will make money off of this! And he has every right to if his plan goes into effect and he is the entrepeneur that put the plan together. After all, we are a capitalist economy!

polarbear , I'm not saying drill just lift the ban and see what happens...just lifting the ban will have an impact, and tie up the oil companies like they are doing now but don't let the world know.

I'm all for solar and wind power, and I will listen to what T. Boone Pickens has to say, we have nothing to lose and everything to gain.

I still have to say no to lifting the ban. If we give them an inch, they'll take a mile!! We cannot risk our natural resources in the name of Big Oil.

Don't agree with me, ask Governor Schwarzenegger. He is just as opposed to offshore drilling as the Democrats are.

And to the origina post, I do not want those hideous things off MY shores!! Ruining our beautiful oceans.

so polarbear, do you really think they will lower prices when they build these wind farms.Prices will increase because they will have to build new power grids in the mid-west, they have to buy or lease land hire more people, I could go on and on, I'm not saying not to do this I'm just saying don't be fooled into thinking the prices will be lower

the only way that will happen is if everyone buys their own windturbines and solar panals, and batteries for storage, I can do this because I have a little land, but if you live in the city you will not be able to have wind turbines because they need to be at least 45 feet high, not to mention the trees that will have to be removed

polarbear;
You have got me wondering about if you went to College or were you just the Janitor? Here is you're Quotes: "Wind power works. I can already see it: a line of windmills along Lake Erie's shore. Providing lower-cost electricity to customers in NE Ohio. Saving money there takes some of the financial burden off people, freeing up money'. Next quote; And to the original post, I do not want those hideous things off MY shores!! Ruining our beautiful oceans". You're words on oil derricks. Alluding to my opening statement, exactly how far out can you see in the Oceans from Cleveland, or for that matter, if you stand on the Shore? You don't have a Problem with a Line along our Beautiful Lake Shore! You won't destroy our environment for power. I agree, what about Health, what do you do with the magnetic Fields created by these Wind Farms, the Batteries and Grids? I'll take the Nuclear and other Atom Splitting technology. It is better than starving or Freezing. When was our last Chernobyl? As for Arnie, send him home, if you follow these types, you will be Broke. look at the State he runs, totally worse than Cleveland or for that matter, Mexico!!

coinsadince....my god superbrowns...have you no pride...lol...lol...lol.....do you have any idea how long it takes to bring an offshore rig on line....coinsadinceadentally i do......presently every offshore drilling rig is booked through 2015.....and it takes five years to build a drilling vessel....and this is your solution to our energy problems....you are too funny to make fun of....i dont even have to

you can say drill, it would be good for all of us. We have the most oil in the world here. those who don't want to drill should stop using it now. That way we will get a surplus for those of us that want it.

I think that the other part of the reason of why gas prices are going down is that if we are not using as much...prices will go down. Guess not too many remember their basic economics of lower demand=lower prices at some point.

I will agree with you on supply but it was dee-man, that caused the price to go down, demand has been dropping and the prices still went up it was only after dee-man lifted the ban that the prices started going down, unless Congress lifts its ban we will start seeing the prices rise again.....
