Boy the way Glen Miller played,
songs that made the hit parade,
guys like us we had it made,
 those were the days,
and you know where you were then,
girls were girls and men were men,
mister we could use a man like Herbert Hoover again,
didn't need no welfare states everybody pulled his weight,
gee our old Lasalle ran great,
those were the days!"

So Archie, if you are bad because you always vote Republican, what does that make someone who only votes Democrat?

"girls were girls and men were men, "

This may be one source of tension between certain “bloggers” and folks from Archie’s day. Men were men, and women were women.

The nostalgia of the past always seems to be better than it actually was. Problems were problems, just as they are today.

I will agree that every era has problems. However, back then we did not have children beating up, shooting, or killing their teachers. We were able to correct our children without being called abusive. Men were expected to behave like men. (get a job, support thier families) Women mostly stayed home and took the responsibility of raising their children seriously.
Yes, racism was a huge issue back then, but it is now too, as is child abuse, terrorism, and an increase in violent crimes commited by the youth of America. The longer this earth spins, the more problems it seems we develop.

Each era has a different set of problems. When we reflect on the past, we tend to only remember the good things.

Somehow I pictured you looking like Cpt. Archer from Enterprise! Probably because when you first started blogging, you used his picture for your avatar!

If you call racial intolerance/segregation, child abuse, incest, molestation, religious intolerance "the good old days".

"correcting children w/o it being abuse" I assume we are talking about using weapons(like belts) to assault children. That IS abuse.

Rape/abuse existed then too. Maybe more unknown than now. Clergy and even family members molested children and nobody did or said anything about it.

I'm a man of the future. Present time beats "back then" any day.

A Good Crack on the @ss kept them in line.

today we have drive by shootings back then fist fights, what would I rather have???

today we have kids beating the teachers too near death back then you feared the paddle and then your parents, what would I rather have??

Today if a kid is bad you talk to them and they still don't listen back then you send them to DH, what would I rather have???

I am a man of the future also, just not the way the kids run a muck....
