What I heard on the street. Don't know if the following is true, but:
The battery on the Prius won't last the life of the loan. A replacement battery will cost more than what the car is worth after four years.
In a head on collision, EMS can't use the Jaws-of-Life for fear of electrocution. They must use special jaws to extract you.
How will the used up lithium batteries be recycled to protect the environment? You can't toss them in a landfill.
Is this stuff true?
Ok, so we're gonna make electric cars so we don't have to be dependent on oil from those pesky third world ingrates. Well folks, we gonna go from one dependency to another. Below is an excerpt from my Kiplinger newsletter. Pay special attention to the last sentence. Doh!!:
"U.S. businesses are losing the race to make rechargeable auto batteries, the kind that will be in great demand when plug-in hybrid cars take off. Chinese and Japanese firms are rapidly locking up the market for rechargeables, which will let most Americans commute to work without using an ounce of gasoline. The upshot: A switch from depending on foreign oil to depending on foreign batteries."
