I can believe it. We are being taxed to death here. Thats why buisnesses are leaving. I live in Old Brooklyn and my property taxes are so bad I really would like to sell and leave but thats not an option ,since everyone is losing their butts ,if they sell. The truth is people are walking away from their homes, just getting up and leaving. Why are our taxes so high ?? Our schools are crap, our police force and fire fighters are losing personal. Let's be honest who really wants to live here by choice ((right now))??? Cleveland is in shambles. I believe Cleveland will be the next Youngstown, and no one is trying to stop it!!!!!!!!!! There was a time where Cleveland was great, but the Politicians have killed Cleveland's soul, it's now a very dreary city. Where is the sunlight??? I really can't name any real good going on here right now!!! We need to just start over , we need new City leaders or Cleveland is going to be snuffed out for good.

I also live in Old Brooklyn and I can't believe how much the neighborhood has changed in the 5 years sense I bought my house.

My street used to be a very family friendly place to live... now with all of the renters and abandoned houses the street is falling apart... traffic late at night, stereos blasting, pulling into a driveway for 5 mintues and then pulling away (I wonder what that is about NOT)..

When is someone going to do something about our neighborhoods?
I personally would like to get a set of spike strips and use them every time someone comes down my street with the stereo cranked up, doing 45 mph or better in a residential zone... maybe then the late night visits would stop.

skorpo? could it possibly be that CRIME has taken over many neighborhoods in cleveland & that people are leaving to get away from it?

yes, the politicians have a part in it, the police do as well. but the BIGGEST part of the problem are the offenders, they tend to "group" together & take over........because law abiding citizens don't associate with the criminals, and most are afraid of them (rightfully so)

this happens in MOST big cities & the criminals just ruin it for everyone. our nation's capital is one the most dangerous cities in this country because of the criminal element. imagine that!

dprin, while I agree with what you said, I have to condemn the City for not doing a better job at getting a hold of this situation and control it better. Why? Because our justice system is lousy and only looks out for the rights of criminals - not the innocent. What would the City do if people bonded together to become a vigilante group and take matters in their own hands to try to control it? They'd severely punish the residents who rightfully are defending their personal property, lives, and well-being while the criminals still will walk with a tap on the wrist.

Until the justice system is changed, there will never be an end to the demise of these major cities.

contact your property tax officials for your county, ask them to mail you the form to have a meeting with the Board of Revision concerning your property tax, that you would like to see about getting it lowered. and do your home-work. how many foreclosures / sales of homes in your neighborhood? how many rentals. how many sit empty. take pics of your house inside/outside, and nieghbors too. so on. I have done this once before- and got my property tax lowered- I am doing it again. do more than complain- put it into ACTION. good luck

CAK - my mother in law lives in Cleveland, and she just had her taxes lowered. She takes care of her home, but there are other homes on her street that are run down, and there are vacant homes, and a borded up drug house. Her property value lowers because of all these things, it only makes sense that her taxes were lowered.
Very good advice.

If only those 13,000 were leaving from East
Cleveland, then things wouldn't look so bad.

Leaving for where ? We, as a nation have been run down over the last seven years. Ohio and Michigan more than the rest. If anyone knows of a bright spot left in the U.S.A. please let the rest of us in on it.

just on the news yesterday- or day before that they named 3 counties in northeastern ohio where the residency of those counties have fallen drastically- summit county was one of those, and cleveland ares fell into it also- this affects values in properties all over- yet we still have to do our part to raise our voices to get taxs lowered- alot of this is due to no jobs in our areas.
casey- schnookums- hi long time no see- friend- I hear North carolina is doing well.

I love where I live. I have a nice, safe community, and guess what? I live in Ohio.
Some people will never be happy with anything in life.

There are no jobs in are area, unless you are a farmer. My husband commutes to work every day. Everything in life has it's price, you just have to decide what is important to YOU.

I grew up in Cleveland and my memories are fond ones. I would love to see it return to the place it use to be.
