MEXICO CITY (AP) — Groping and verbal harassment is an exasperating reality for women using public transportation in this sprawling capital, where 22 million passengers cram onto subways and buses each day. Some men treat women so badly that the subway system has long had ladies-only cars during rush hour, with police segregating the sexes on the platforms.

But that hasn't helped women forced to rely on packed buses, by far the city's most-used form of public transportation — until this week.

Acting on complaints from women's groups, the city rolled out "ladies only" buses, complete with pink signs in the windshields to wave off the men.

As word spreads about the buses, the women seem delighted, while some men forced to wait a few minutes longer have shown their anger. Still others have stumbled on board despite the signs, much to their embarrassment.

On Thursday, passengers on one of the female-only buses spent most of their trip down the capital's tree-lined Reforma Avenue chatting or putting on makeup, instead of fighting off unwanted male attention.

Yeah - and we all know there's not a single male pervert in the good ole USA. No sexual predators in prisons here, either. Like these types of people don't exist in EVERY country on the earth....

If men were bothering me - I'd be GRATEFUL for a women's only bus! Sounds like good common sense to me.
The object of your blog is not to keep us informed - it is to instill hate - be honest.

I think it was very considerate on the part of the Mexican government. They obviously can't change the attitude of millions of testoterone-driven men, so they solve the problem by giving the women their own bus! Sounds like a solution to me.

I guess I am just dumbfounded that there is actual disagreement on this issue.
Since when has it become acceptable for people that are not even US citizens to come here uninvited, break our laws and mock us over it?

What are you talking about quarry? This blog was about a Women's only bus in Mexico City - no one mentioned immigration or illegals. It has nothing to do with this story.

Thanks! There are a couple things about this post that should concern us... one is that law enforcement either is not strong enough to handle the problem with these men or they just look the other way. Two, didn't the U.S. have segregated buses at one time in history, umm YEAH they did and wasn't there a problem with that? Yes. Don't you think it's "sad" that these woman have to ride a separate bus because this city is that far out of what's acceptable? I do.

Wow, schannel. Your concern about the the Mexican people's governing of their people is really touching....NOT.
The difference between the two busses you spoke about is that the Blacks were segregated on seperate busses by FORCE. It appears that these women are seperated by CHOICE.
Once again, your "concern" about the Mexican government is self-serving. YOUR only concern is making people hate Mexicans!

Their own country cannot handle problems like this then America needs to stop letting these people in our country in which this is a small example of what we will be facing here.

gs- I could care less if you think I'm "spreading hate"... go to Mexico city and get on the bus... and I don't mean the "women only" buses.

I've been to Mexico MANY times! And I've ridden on their busses! I never had a problem, not saying that one does not exist.
Schannel - you sound more and more like Pablo every day. At least Pablo is honest about his hatred. But you "BLEEP-foot" around the issue, trying to make it look like ALL Mexicans are horrible people, so if they come here, we hate them before we even know them.
Once again, and I've said it before, I think all nationalities should come here LEGALLY and go through the same immigration process that our ancestors did. But the fact that some are here illegally is not a reason to hate all Mexicans.
