Last night I attended a board meeting for the Parma City Schools regarding the closing of three elementary schools and consolidating the School District.  Although it is unfortunate that these schools have to close, it financially makes sense.  I've been to numerous board meetings, prior to an issue being on the ballot for an upcoming levy, and residents have voiced their concerns about not giving the district any additional money because there are other ways in which the school district can alocate funds, and ultimately the levies fail.

So know you have a district, which is lead by a intellegent superintendent, that goes back to the drawing board to find a solution that works (because voters refuse to pass levies), and yet there is still an outcry against it.  So the levy won't pass and "Option A" is being challanges as well.  People need to make a decision.  Pass the levy or close the schools.  I'm sure the kids will be fine.

And one last thing in closing.  When a board member is under investigation for corruption, I really don't think his "opinion" on how a school district should be ran or managed should really matter.

Frankly, I don't think the board is starting its cut-backs where the cut-backs should be started - from the top! You have highly paid admins at the board and probably an excessive, unnecessary amount to boot. You have high schools with 5 principals, whose salaries are pretty high, and the broken promise of the board that when WE passed the last levy 2 years ago, WE were promised they wouldn't ask for any more for FIVE years!

I have a kid in high school in Parma and while I'm concerned for the remainder of her education, I don't care to keep paying more and more money long after she's graduated and left the nest when I've not yet seen the promises followed through by the board members on any levy in the past.

I don't believe that any school system should start their cuts with the kids. All cuts should begin at the top - PERIOD!

Had I seen more improvement with my tax dollars from the past as promised, I might have been inclined to vote for this last levy. I really do not see the necessity in having so many high paid positions within one high school. Five principals? Now where's the reasoning in that? And, the last levy, we were promised new books. I have yet to see new books being brought home by my child and many times, there is only ONE set for a class rather than each student getting a copy. So, we were promised books - where are they?

It's more than just a corrupt member and believe me, I'm sure many other members are just as corrupt - they just haven't been caught, yet. But, so many other promised issues went neglected and broken.

You want to pass a levy.

Print the schools budget in the news paper for all to see.

And when the people see where the money is going they can make an informed decision.

I can definitely say that the last levy didn't benefit the kids. Bad books, NO books, high fees, costly sports, and I can go on and on. So, my question is, where in the world did the funds go that I paid for in my taxes from the last one? Oh, wait! I know - these board members who make so much money, they can afford luxury homes and vacation homes! I just know that with having a child in the Parma schools, I have seen things that don't set well with me anytime a levy is passed. It's for sure the kids don't benefit!
