Although national unemployment rates have soared to 5.5 percent, our home has suffered the economic equivalent of hurricane katrina.......recent june unemployment statistics state that the ranks of the jobless have reached 8.1 percent in the cleveland heartland......the republican policies of borrow and spend....while cutting the taxes of the ultra-rich have seen the rate steadily increase throughout the bush administration.....from 3.6 percent when he was elected...to the aforementioned 8.1 percent.....a middle class resident of our once fair county has to walk only out the door to see boarded up homes and uncut grass.....cuyahoga county is a working mans county....a place where people only ask for a chance to prosper....a place where people raise their families and pay their taxes.....but while those taxes continue to be poured into a bottomless pit in iraq, we sink into the economic doldrums of recession....this november think locally....and vote for cuyahoga county.....lets get a candidate that wont just promise more of the same...... because look where that took us....cuyahoga county needs a change

Don't vote for the incumbents.

I don't need a change, thanks. The Bush years have been the most prosperous of my life. Leave Obama for the welfare poor. He's their boy, not mine.

Plus, only stupid people sign mortgage notes with subprime lenders. That's their fault, not Bushes. Let the buyer beware.

Oddly enough, I agree with this post and the replies given by sofakingdabest and art_Mcdonald. My question is who to vote for to make it better? I do not see the solution in Obama or McCain.

Ricky, I’ll bite, yes I went to college and yes I also own a Harley. What’s your point? If you are referring to my comment on another blog? I was merely stating a correction towards a statement that was directed to me by another blogger. What’s you point?

HDrider, Maybe one day we can. what style of bike do youn have? Have you been to Southeast Harley?

Obama will make things beter. The last seven years have been a nightmare and a vote for McCain will lead to four more years of terror.

Let me guess, Art. You're some kind of criminal predatory lender or a repo man?

PB, just what is Obama going to do to "make things better"? Give us some details.

You don't have a clue, just like the REST of the Obamatrons...............blindly worshiping a silver tongued moron.

Make your case PB, tell us ALL how EVERYTHING is going to get better & how fast.

and art, i sort of agree with you on the sub prime mess..........and NO politician is going to cure that mess........the people who bought houses they couldn't afford & then didn't pay their bills are the ones at fault. the really bad part is that the people who actually PAY their bills & live on a budget are the ones suffering with the lower property values.

Hi gangster;
I've got a 96 FLHT. Love it. I haven't yet, but I've been to most of the others around Ohio. Took a trip to York, went through the Plant. Had a good time there, as I worked for Ford at the Lorain Assy. Plant! I hope to go to Milwaukee for the Party!!

"the people who bought houses they couldn't afford & then didn't pay their bills are the ones at fault"

Really? So the banks who gave these "high risk" people loans are in no way to blame? Doesn't it just seem stupid that a bank would give someone they no cannot pay their loan back a loan? The banks were greedy and it blew up in their face.

so by that STUPID logic PB, if one bounces a check, then it's the BANKS fault? or if one buys a caddillac and defaults on the loan it's the dealer's fault AND the lender's fault?

what happened to living up to one's word? what happened to contracts?

is the NO personal responsibility in this?

this is one of things that is wrong with you obamatrons.........you are all convinced that you are ALL victims of some crazy right wing conspiracy and that HE and HE alone is going it make it all go away & we can all live in never never land with peter pan.

get your head out of obama's butt PB and THINK for yourself! if YOU agree to pay for a mortgage, then it's YOUR responsibility ALONE to pay for it! no matter how bad the deal is, no matter how "unfair" it seems, YOU still signed the papers and YOU still have the responsibility to PAY the mortgage.

Dprin – “what happened to living up to one's word? what happened to contracts?”

When my wife and I took out our house loan, we knew the risks. That is how it was in those days (1980s). We knew that if we could not pay, or we chose to put our house payment money towards something else, we would lose the house. Period. Our RISK and our FAULT. We never even considered crying to our Congress people or blaming our bank for tricking us into the load. Hey, back in the 80’s you couldn’t even get a loan unless you qualified. That meant you had to be a good risk.

hybrid, it was the same for me but in 1991....and again in 2000.........we knew the risks & we knew the commitment, up front and ALL the details because we actually READ the contracts BEFORE we signed them.

i remember saying to my husband back then, "we can't do this", "we can't afford this", etc. and he kept saying, yes we can dear, yes we can.

we have & still do, every month of every year, we make two mortgage payments faithfully. it's called living up to one's word.

now i gotta say i'm going to be FURIOUS if our government starts handing our MONEY to people who didn't pay their mortgages so that they can stay in their homes. and i'm going to INSIST that I get the same treatment these people do....

Dprin – “we actually READ the contracts BEFORE we signed them.”

Our load agent made us read every page (there were twenty-one of them as I recall) of our load agreement, and wanted to answer every question we had. She made sure that before we signed the loan papers we knew what we were getting into. Back then, they were all like that.

Now that the government has inserted itself into the process, everything is screwed up.
