Children these days have the I DONT CARE attidude, and do not have respect for anyone or anything. By charging the parent this will send a message to these out of control kids that if you go out & commit crimes your parent will also suffer and hopefully they care about their parents enough to stop committing crimes. I am sure there will be alot of parents out there saying that this is not right and it is also not right when you child goes out & commits crime - if you dont charge the parents THEN WHO IS RESPONSIBLE???

What makes you think that a child that would beat the crap out of an elderly in the street gives a darn about what's going to happen to their parents?

I am no lawyer but I thought that in order for me to go to jail that I had to commit a crime. What crime are they charging parents with?

I see for the most part a lot of problems with this. As you stated children care for no one. Including there parents. Some children do care deep down but won't see it until they've gotten there parents in all kinds of legal troubles that can cause them there jobs, homes etc. But by then it's too late to care. I think they really need to start holding the children accountable as well. I don't care about there age. These kids do what ever they want. You get very little if any help from the government, schools, or police. Children cannot be held accountable. They know this too. They get slaps on the wrists for worse and worse crimes with little consequences. I agree that our society has become soft. We do not care for our younger generations any longer. When I say care I mean doing the dirty parenting jobs. Being a parent first, and friend second. Shame on the ones who do this. It's to the childs detriment. Statistics show this.

Who is responsible? How about the stupid B@#$!%^ kid who is commiting crimes?!?
Do you honestly think kids are going to give 2 blankity blanks about their parents being punished for stupid crap they do? They DON'T care.. so they are NOT going to care when their parents go to jail.. It's going to be FUNNY to them.
These "out of control" kids don't care about anyone but themselves.. Knowing up front that they can do whatever they please and there are no consequences for their actions (except for maybe a nice vacation from their 'rents) is not going to stop them.. it's going to increase the problem.

It's no different then being suspended from school. How is that punishment? When you already don't care.. and you're now getting a 2-3 day vacation from school.. how does that stop you from doing bad things?

What would happen to you if you left your Dog unattended and your dog attacked someone? You will be fined, sued and possibly aressted! Now explain why you should not be responsible if your chid does the same thing?

Drey you are right when you said if you leave your dog unattended you will be fined, sued and possibly arrested, so why dont these parents think they should be responsible if their kids go out and commit crimes, yes they could lose their jobs, house and freedom, but if your kid breaks a window or damages someone's property you are responsible, if the government decides to pass the law to punish parents for what their kids do, all the comments and blogs in the world is not going to stop the law from passing and going into affect...Parents need to talk to their kids about what is going on today, my kids know if you go out and commit a crime and I have to miss work you A## is mine
