STOP !   The Catholic Faith is not up for popular vote.  We're talking GOOD FRIDAY!!!!  This is the most solumn day in the Church year.  Christ suffered and DIED on this day.  If this is not important to you as a Catholic, go to the game eat whatever you want.  But if you feel in your heart and soul what this truely means you would not even consider any of this discussion.

I totally agree. Is your commitment to Christ really not worth giving up a hotdog. Pretty sad.

I completely agree, too! I am not Catholic but my grandparents are and I spent many Sunday mornings in church with them. There should not be any exception to Good Friday in reguards to hot dogs. This is lent! You don't eat meat on Friday's during lent, period! The only exceptions that have been made are for religious reasons. St. Patrick's Day is the celebration of a Patron Saint. Since a large portion of the Irish population is Catholic, they were allowed to eat meat on St. Patrick's day. I may love the Indians, but opening day is not a religious event in any church's eye! If people want to go, then go and eat your fish 'n chips and enjoy the day! There is a whole season ahead of us and there will be plenty of hot dogs available! And while you're grumbling about missing out on your hot dogs at the game remember why we celebrate Good Friday to begin with! I have a feeling you won't be suffering in any way near the way Christ suffered for you!

I am a Catholic, and I don't think eating meat on Friday is a big deal. This is not a rule anywhere in the Bible. It's a "man-made" law by the church, the purpose being to do self-sacrifice. There are other ways to sacrifice: do volunteer work for a nursing home, donate money to a charity, read the bible every evening, etc., etc. My God is a loving God, and I don't believe that he would send anyone to hell for eating meat on a Friday! The way you live your whole life counts for a lot more in the final judgment. As far as I'm concerned, this is a trivial "church rule" and by the way, I am a Vegetarian!!

Lent is really concerned with fasting. There is nothing wrong with eating any meat. But the problem is when you make a commitment to fast than you need to abide by it. If you don't want to fast then don't make the commitment. I think people are missing the point concerning lent. It's a choice not a commandment.

I'm not a Catholic. I AM a Christian tho. I was raised to believe that Jesus Christ gave up everything, including His life, so that we didn't have to. I've always known about Lent and what it was about, we just didn't practice it. I have never seen this rule written in the scriptures, I have seen written that Jesus Christ came to FULFILL the Law. We are saved by our acceptance of Jesus Christ into our hearts not by adherance to laws.

I understand there are MANY things available to eat at the stadium, and I know there are many people that attend the games that are not Catholic. They have to follow their own conscience, all of them. If it would make them feel guilty to eat a hot dog, then DON'T. It should not have to be dictated by the church.

Whether or not eating meat is a man made law or by the hand of God, you chose to abide by all aspects of your religion when you chose to practice it. Not pick and choose when something comes up (i.e. St. Patrick's Day or Opening Day). I guess this debate is one of the reasons why I am not big on organized religion..A LOT of hypocrites. I think it is sad people want to make exceptions in religion.

The Bible does not instruct Christians to remember Christ’s death by honoring a certain day. The Bible does give us freedom in these matters, however. Romans 14:5 tells us, “One man considers one day more sacred than another; another man considers every day alike. Each one should be fully convinced in his own mind.” The Bible instructs us to remember Christ’s death by observing the Lord’s Supper. 1 Corinthians 11:26 declares, “For whenever you eat this bread and drink this cup, you proclaim the Lord's death until he comes.”

Why is Good Friday referred to as “good”? What the Jewish authorities and Romans did to Jesus was definitely not good (see Matthew chapters 26-27). However, the results of Christ’s death are very good! Romans 5:8, “But God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us.” 1 Peter 3:18, “For Christ died for sins once for all, the righteous for the unrighteous, to bring you to God. He was put to death in the body but made alive by the Spirit.”

very well said shikamaru. catholics think they are so saint. if so, then why are they hypocrytes? they can gamble in the church, smoke and drink, but don't have sex before marriage, unless your a presit who like to moleste little boys. catholics make me sick. They have their own bibles and add and take away whatever they want. Lent, come on what is that. Don't eat something because Jesus died for us. No one will ever be like Jesus in a lifetime. You are to follow and obey God's rules and the man made world has put so many laws that affect everyone. If you go to church you better not tell anyone. I am a christian and very proud that I am a member of church of christ. We follow the bible and read the same bible as most religions. New King James. Not our own. Like the catholics. Sad. They are so good that they have to put all the churches together, because they have to pay out so much money to the victims who were molested. Sad. So eat whatever you want. Just like communion on sunday's why and what are doing this? It says on the table "remember me when you do this?" a lot of people have no idea why you take communion. Wanna make a bet catholics?????

Give up your hotdogs when these priests give up their little boys! I think the Catholic religion is a joke and hypocritical. Telling people what they can and cannot eat? Who they can and cannot marry? Get counseling before marriage by a man who knows nothing of being married or sex? Well, wait - maybe sex with a boy..... or two or three.

well said clevebtch I have said this all along about the catholics. They can drink, smoke and not have sex before marriage.????? Because having sex before marriage is a sin, yet they can drink and smoke and gamble at the church.??? I don't get it.

To hillbilly67, you say in your bio that you try to look for the good in others and that you go to church, yet all you do is talk about people. You are the hipocrite. Its people like you that go to church and acted almighty and then talk about others. I am a catholic, i didnt choose to be catholic. I dont go to church, I gamble and if i have something to say i say it. I dont care what religion you are it all changes when you walk out of the church on sunday

oh well that you feel that way ohio_gal. I talk about the people who do wrong. I am by no means a hypocrite. That is your thought and opinon and you know what they say every one has one just like a--holes. You I really do not care what you think of me. Catholics are the most ones who cause the problems in religion. Look at the presit. As long as your doing good for yourself and others then yes I do look for the good in people. I know I commet sins everyday if I did not I would not be human. Sorry you feel the way you do, yet I will pray for you because of your comment and plus your catholic. each and everyone of us will have to answer on judgement day!!!!
