How the hell is Bill Martin a racist for basically pointing out that 1) Cleveland has a crime problem, and 2) more people are moving OUT of town than into it.....?

I don't see where race comes into that, and both happen to be true. Maybe if you look at the words actually used instead of digging for an alterior (racial) intent, you'll see that it sounds a bit silly to label Mr. Martin that way.

No, I'm sorry. The councilman did when he started the name calling in the letter. The mother did what every mother does - right or wrong - fight for her child (and I do disagree with her stance). I agree with some of the other posts though - he could've handled it much better seeing how he is a public official. If a black councilperson sent that type of letter to a white juevenile, you white people would be calling for his or her resignation.

As for Bill, I call it as I see it (I used to be a fan...not anymore).

I have to disagree with this poster. I do not see how this came about. Cleveland is full of crime. I don't believe Cleveland has a racial problem I believe it's a cultural problem, and it's not just Cleveland. Race has nothing to do with it. This thug culture is within all races. I personally feel that all races are tired of this culture. According to everything I've heard concerning this situation this counselman has dealt with this boy on several occasions. I'm sure he might have been able to be a little more civil in his letter but it seems to me that he also had enough. I read the letter and It is obvious that this counselman was highly frustrated. It is extremely difficult to deal with these young people. They seem to have a death wish. They seem to be unreachable, and it's also obvious that these kids parents have either given up or never started. There are far to many parents out there that are very weak minded when it comes to there children, and it shows. Shame on these parents for not doing what it takes to get there children to safety, and a life that can give them the opportunity (if they'll take it) to make something of themselves.

I'm not saying the mother is handling this situation with her son very well - but neither is this councilperson. As I said before - I once thought so, but when I see the venom directed at the mother and the situation as a whole - no way. It could've and should've been handle another way.

well I base my decision on the mothers reactions, who she has tried to bring in to deal with it, and for the lack of her real concern for the trouble her son is in. Her son did not become this thug over night. He grew into it. With the mothers knowledge. The mother always knows. Maybe not everything but enough to know when something needs to be done. Also that she still lives in a bad neighborhood with her child who is now an adult. I have been in a poverty situation myself with a child. I worked three jobs. Almost round the clock to get out of that. I worked jobs that I was able to take my child with me to all the jobs. I worked a lot and worked hard so my child would not be living in a poverty, drug stricken neighborhood. So I know If I could do it, these mothers who claim poorness can to. Also this counselman did talk to the mom. He spoke of it in his letter.

where ever there are people, human beings, or races, you will find a problem and many many more. Being black,white, red, yellow or brown is not what make people good/bad- it is a very ugly groweth we are all cursed with it is SIN, disobedience, selfishness///and so on. Jesus came to save ALL peoples from this cancer- we all have. He did'nt come for just one race He came for us all. He said he came as the great physician to heal the "sick" well we're all sick with sin, we're all guilty. Just take 10 minutes & read the ten commandments ( be honest with yourself) and write down the one (or ones) you have never broken. then read Matthew 22: 35-40. Concerning the Councilman. He's right. It is past time that we need to stand against the wicked ACTS of men, women, & children, it is not about race, or color of one's skin.

How can someone with your soon to be (cough cough) profession talk like that? And we wonder why there is still a problem with racism in this world. It's getting sooooooooo old and boring!

That was the whole reason the letter was publicized to begin with...."MAMMA GONNA SUE". Now that her little thug is 18 she can't use the money to pay her bills because now he can go to jail instead of hiding behind the juvenile system.
This letter was in no way threatening. And this "yahoo" would not be offended if my son was to receive a letter like this because if I can't teach him right from wrong then I would welcome the help from outsiders.
Why has no-one else come forward with their letters from this same counsilman? Maybe because they know he's right!! It all boils down to what you said..."MAMMA WANTS TO SUE", nice way to teach your child another easy way out of earning a hard living!!!!
