What is up with having black history every year, why can't we have White history month,  is that not a form of discrimation? I feel it is but who am I.I think it would be educational if we learn about both races, not just about the one.God Bless everyone.

You know that will NEVER happen. We are considered the cause of all of the BLACKS short falls. Check out all of the Discriminating Help Agencies for Blacks just in the State Agencies. I never realized all of this _hit! Talk about bottom of the heap, we are there!

lovelyhair, i agree with you and have shared this same sentiment over and over.

i'm surprised you haven't gotten the "every month is white history month" crap thrown at you yet LOL

Dprin, every month IS white history month! Face it, world and American history is whiter than the dumpster behind a paper plate factory. I see nothing wrong with recognizing and celebrating Blacks who played an important role in history. Many in this country want to rewrite and ignore these individuals.

This "reverse racism" argument is getting older than Dick Goddard. Some of you(especially the first commenter) love to cut people down over every little thing. With all the sh** whites put these people through over time, is it really that hard to let them have a history month? Get over it!

PB, i never said there was something wrong with it, once again though, if our GOVERNMENT specified that March was WHITE history month, OMG would there be the screaming.

Why is it that us "white bread" americans can't complain about things that WE see are racist & unfair?

How is it crap dprin? Can you honestly say that people equally have the same amount of knowledge about black history as white history? It is a shame that we need a month to celebrate some of the great inventions and historical accomplishments in black hitory! In school these children are not learning all they should and for us as a race to have a month that is recognized by all as being a month to appreciate african americans what's the big deal??? unlike most people though i teach my daughter everyday about our history and where we come from and where we're going i won't leave it to the school to teach her the things that even they don't understand! Just the other day i asked my daughter who martin luther king was...she had no idea so my thing is it was martinluther king day not to long ago, did they not discuss mlk with the students? so i told her about him but if the schools aren't even telling the kids about mlk then they for damn sure not going to tell them about slavery!!!

I realy think that black/white history should be taught daily in an integrated text. I know when I was in school, a private, non religious school, we learned the history of black/white/asian/spanish/ect. each day.

BTW - what American, no matter what race, does not know about slavery??

i'm talking about children and there are alot of children who don't know about slavery, but not that but other historic things that happened and all the contributions inthe world made by blacks i'm just saying i think it's a shame that we have a month to celebrate these things and people want to take that away, it's already the shortest month of the year!

I understand where you are coming from, but wouldn't it be more effective to teach black history right along side white history? (heck, call it American History) I'm not saying take it away. I'm saying instead of concentrating on it just one month out of the year, we should insist that it be taught every month.

single, sorry, i guess my comment wasn't clear or you misunderstood it.

i meant the barrage of comments in the past about how every month is white history month. and yes, i think that comment is crap!

history is history. it's not colored. martin luther king was an amazing man, but then again so was abraham lincoln. what difference does it make what color they were?

i get tired of the whole seperate but equal issue. this history belongs to ALL of us & should be taught that way (i believe that it is in most cases).

"it's a shame that we have a month to celebrate these things "

single, who is WE in that statement?

just pointing out that "whites" are not the only ones with the race issues. if we are going to be equal, then let's be EQUAL, not seperate.

i hope i am making myself clear without offending. that is not my intention.

Yes that would be perfect, as a matter of fact they do call it american history but there is no black history beeing learned along side it, I would love it if everyday we learned about history as a whole and not seperated into groups of race, gender, religion, it sounds good in theory but i just don't see it happening in my lifetime the world is so divided and me as a parent i'm hoping there will be some change for my daughters sake!

I meant WE as in everyone not just blacks, when you write things sometimes they look different then they sound, misunderstanding.

single, when i was in school i learned about "black history" (they didn't call it that, it was just history) back in the 70's. if you didn't learn it, or your child is not learning it today, speak up to your school board, if that doesn't work, change schools.

are you sure your daughter is not being taught this? maybe it's just general american history instead of being called "black" history. just a guess here, i could definitely be way out in left field.

okay single, i believe that you meant everyone in that statement. so, tell me why it's so important to "celebrate" for a month? if every month is "american history" month, then why be pointing it out so much? why make it such a big deal?

see? even you (without realizing it) are seperating as well. (no offense meant)

let me show you what i see regarding the seperate but equal position in my opinion, from your writings:

"Can you honestly say that people equally have the same amount of knowledge about black history (1) as white history" "great inventions and historical accomplishments in black hitory!(2) In school these children are not learning all they should and for us as a race (3) to have a month that is recognized by all (4) as being a month to appreciate african americans" (5)

i picked up 5 phrases or words that make it clear that even YOU (again, probably without even realizing it) are race minded & support the seperate but equal problems. again, if we are going to EQUALS, then why do "you people" have to have your own month, holiday, etc? who's doing the seperating?

not trying to be racist in this (the use of "you people" is just to prove a point)

I am not seperating anything! society is !! i don't wait until feb. to celebrate my heritage i do it all year. And "you people" what point are you trying to make exactly? because i don't remember having any part in having black history month or mlk day!! ask your government officials why??? And i do not support seperate but equal but i am left to deal with it!!

"or us as a race to have a month that is recognized by all as being a month to appreciate african americans what's the big deal???"

oh but you DO support it with that statement alone.
