I feel they should band drinking and not smoking, when you smoke  you can not take a life in a minute but when you drink and you drink too much the chances are greater that something will happen. What is wrong with our goverment today ? I would bet that if you added up all the money spent on booze for when the govement has different parties going on you would find out that is more then what we would think that was being spent, but oh wait a minute I forget the governet is perfect and that they have more rights then we do!!!!! How SAD.

Your right but also considering the fact they can ban smoking they can ban both. Too many get away with killing being drunk, how many times have we heard about it being a third fourth or sixteenth time they drank and drove. Its really sad.

drinking and smoking are both legal neither should be banned those who drink and drive should be prosecuted to the fullest extent, but prosecuting the mass's for the screw ups of a few.is wrong the government has way to much power.

lovelyhair - Band drinking ? all of the band, or just some of the band ? I`m sorry but I couldn`t resist. LOL ! I knew you meant " Ban " drinking. That was tried back in the prohibition days. The result was stills springing up around the country, speakeasys opening around the country, gang wars erupting over control of illegal liquor, and if you wanted a drink, you could still get one - no problem. The answer lies in stiffer penalties for DUI. There is NO excuse for DRINKING AND DRIVING !!!

Ok lets rephrase this we should ban drinking as some have banned smoking in public places. It wasnt the government that banned it it was the voters. The government regulates it as it does everything we dont like. But still the voters can ban it. And its not a FEW screw ups.

In 2006, an estimated 17,602 people died in alcohol-related traffic crashes—an average of one every 30 minutes. These deaths constitute 41 percent of the 42,642 total traffic fatalities. Of these, an estimated 13,470 involved a driver with an illegal BAC (.08 or greater).

Does that look like a FEW? There may be a few that stay where they drink or have a DD but most people that are drunk think they are ok to drive and why is that? Because they are IMPAIRED.

I have to agree with Catastrophe2,what about these people out there working on their 13,14,or even more d.u.i.'s. look at that woman and her children that were killed, i think they should be put in prison for a long time, because obviloulsly they didnt learn way back when they got their fist one,and thease ones who still go out driving evedn though their license's have been taken away for lifetime do to to many offenses.

If you drive drunk and kill somebody, you have committed murder just as if you had pointed a gun and pulled the trigger.

Ban drinking, HELL NO!!!

Harsher punishments for DUI, HELL YEAH!!

It was WRONG to ban smoking, it would be WRONG to ban drinking. People need to be more responsible for their actions and if they choose to be stupid and drink and drive, then they need to face tougher punishments. Like casey said above, if they kill someone, it IS MURDER.

It is murder but why do we have to wait until they kill someone? Im all for harsher punishments but just like a drinking ban it wont happen. And just for the record I am a smoker and at one time I could have probably drank half you men under the table and I still like my glass of JD & coke now and then. Im only 4'11" 120lbs always have been since I was 16 except of course during my pregnancies. So its not like Im for the smoking ban but it happened. If they really want to vote on a drinking ban it will happen. Murder is not a good subject for me so I will avoid that. if they could come up with a way to prevent drunk driving then Im all for it. Until then why should we have to wait for people to die?

I am against a drinking ban, but I agree with harsher DUI penalties. If we make the punishment for DUI more sever, many of these dangerous drivers will be off the road before anyone dies. 12 or 13 DUIs is UNACCEPTABLE!!

The sad thing is, that's true. Just look what these puritans did to Ohio, no smoking so drinking is not that far away.

12 or 13 DUIs is UNACCEPTABLE! your right. I have tried to think of just how many jobs and business will be lost because of the smoking ban. Sad fact is alot as will be if they do a drinking ban, and why? All because we cant regulate our own bodies? Because people dont know when enough is enough or they shouldnt drive. What choice have some people left the voters? Most of your drunk alcoholics wont vote anyway if they ban drinking then it will just be moonshine then.

12 or 13 DUI`s ? One is unacceptable. That shows bad judgment in the first place so why let it go any farther ? There is no way in hell a person should drink and drive. The same applies to drug use. Anytime you operate a vehicle with your` judgment or senses impaired your` drivers license should be taken permanently. If you then operate a motor vehicle without a license, a lengthy jail term should follow. DON`T DRINK OR DO DRUGS, AND DRIVE !!!!!!!!!11

I agree, tougher DUI laws especially for repeat offenders.
Here's an idea...lets ban banning!?
Put it on the ballot! :)

I'm with quarry, stop banning everything! People just need to be responsible for the actions!

Keep banning this and that and pretty soon (as I've said MANY times) none of us will have ANY RIGHTS AT ALL!!!

Ricky really all I can say is oh please. Hillbillies again! And I bet that less then 8 percent is those hillbillies sitting on their fat arse. Grow up.

Casey its still waiting for them to drink and drive. The real question is how do we stop the drinking and driving? I already said if drinking was banned then it would just be moonshine so there fore it wont stop drinking and driving. Tougher laws wont work they have to drink and drive then get caught.

Shark ok lets get it on the ballot! My whole point with the drinking and driving is why do we have to wait for them to be repeat offenders? How can we stop drinking and driving?

Schannel Hello its too late already look around. You cant walk out your door and get in your car without having insurance or putting your seatbelt on. But you still have those who do it, just as the whole moonshine issue. The question still stands as How do we stop drinking and driving?

To stop the drinking and driving we could have the car manufacturers install an ignition breathalyzer in every vechicle... as part of e-check make sure every car on the road has one installed (older cars would not be exempt... they would have to have an aftermarket one installed)...

I know that it would still be possible for someone to drink and drive (pay a sober person to blow into the car to start it) but it could be a start to ending the problem as lots of the local drunks come to the bar alone or they are in a group where the whole group is drinking..

Of course that once again shows that we need the nannies to keep an eye on us as it is obvious we can't make our own decisions (like working in a bar where people smoke)

OK off my soap box

Yeah that would be a good start. Im sure it would met some resistance from those who dont drink. And we would have to make sure every county does e-check. One problem I see with it is we are asking people who cant even afford to drink to have something expensive installed and they have to maintain to be install in a car lets say they paid 50 dollars for. Im not knocking your idea its a good one I would be all for it. True they could pay someone sober to blow in it but then hey DNA.

Yes nannies again and we wonder why our government makes so many screwed up decisions for us because simply put we cant do it ourselves.

We could fund the units from the fines that are being collected from current DUI's or just increase the tax on alcohol (OK so you can't hear the sarcasm in my voice but it is there)... the government's answer to everything is just to raise the "sin" taxes... why not put some of that money to good use instead of lining the pockets of politicians?

There you go now lets do it. BTW I did pick up on that sarcasm. Its all good though. Lets make the people with DUIs pay for this.
