I always thought that doctors took an oath to help the ill, well what is this world coming too?I had to go to a clinic to seek medical treatment and  they told me that if I dont stop smoking that they will NOT be able to help me, they have it posted plus I also had to sign a paper stating that I would stop, then they gave me these pills to take to help stop, well in my opion I think it's wrong, I mean come on .......Everyone got their "NO SMOKING" ban, but now the medical field is going to stop treating you if you are a smoker. How  can they do this, where do they get off not treating you just because you are a smoker?I will stop so I can get treated but when it's all said and done I will start up again.!!!!!

Be careful if the pills they gave you are called Chantix. It made me have vivid dreams every night. Which after a week of no real sleep I was fried. Plus I'm not sure if it was the lack of sleep or the meds. that caused me to be extremely aggitated. As far as the medical field not treating smokers. That sounds about right. It will start with that then go on to the drinkers, the over weight etc. Until all they'll treat is the healthy! Which sounds really dumb doesn't it. Those folks don't need a Dr. Huh. Maybe they'll all lose there jobs for lack of work!!!!!!!

Hello Klh1886, How true it is about the things that you have said, but we wont be that lucky that they lose their jobs, because there will always be people that are in need of medical care.Yes they do have me on Chantix and I think that I may be having some problems with it but I have only been on it for 3 days now.

lovelyhair,

doctors do take an oath to take care of you. There is a verbal agreement between you and the dr. He will take care of you to the best of his ability and you will follow his orders. They have that right. IF you want you can see another physician. I have twenty years experience in the medical field and working in doctor offices for twenty years I have come across that experience with other patients. They are only looking out for yourself. Depending on what they were treating you for. Good luck

hillybillys....Sorry to say that I can not see another doctor because I have NO medical insurance and can NOT afford it at this time, so I have to go there, but like I said, once I get things taken care of I WILL BE BACK TO SMOKING!!! I may not have that right now but I will one day. Thank you.

I agree, Lovelyhair. That is just wrong for the doctor to deny care because you smoke. I think the entire commumity is being brainwashed by this whole smoking ban thing.

lovely hair, I also have a Rx for Chantix, I am dying to take it but cannot afford it. I am not sure how many pills are even in the starter pack, it's well over $100, you probably know this. Can you tell me how many ARE in the starter pack or the actual cost to be on the medication monthly? This pill is suppose to make you sick as long as you are still smoking.

I have a friend who is a chain smoker and is on OXYGEN. She cannot even get up and walk across the room without taking a break. (She is 34yrs. old and slim) She was told over a month ago that if she did not quit she would probably not see the end of this year. She has previously tried everything on the market. Chantix HAS WORKED for her! She says that the sick feeling goes away after you are completely nicotine free. But, until then you will get sicker and sicker when you do smoke. That is what it is known for. Also, to beat the night time problems you can take Melatonin which is an all natural herbal supplement that you can purchase at any drug store for under $5.oo and you will get around 100 tablets. You can even choose to take one to two tablets around 30 minutes before bed. I take Melatonin due to medication causing wakefulness and horrible dreams. It has been a blessing! When you wake up in the morning you feel great too. No drowsy feeling left over. I hope this information helps you a little!

As for the doctor refusing medical treatment I would love to know where this clinic is. I work in the medical field and have never heard of such a thing and I am not sure if they could legally back

sorry to hear no health insurance. I understand how hard it is not to have insurance. My husband and I have medication to take each month. IF we did not have rx coverage we would pay over $1000.00 a month for our prescriptions. My copay is $50.00 for brand name and $10.00 for generic. We have to pay the highest teir on our plan. Like my insulin, Lantus is $80.00, yet I have to pay $50.00. I guess it is better.
I know I could not afford to go to my dr. due to the cost. I really feel for the people who do not have insurance. God bless you lovelyhair and I wish you the best of luck.

nikkiatumn, I did not pay for the pills, they are given to me free becuse this is a free clinic as I said before, I have o medical or insurance coverage. To answer your question though there is 11 pills ...day 1 -3 take one daily then day 4-7 take 2 daily, one in the morning and one at night. They do make me kinda of sick to my stomach, but I just hang in there.Chantix 0.5 mg. So I hope I answered yur question but I dont know if all starter packs are the same though.

So, you can't afford insurance, but you can afford to smoke? You need to get your priorities in order. If you don't care enough about your health to quit smoking, why should the doctor?

Fafafooey: You do have a point but its my life and if I chose to smoke then thats on me, no doctor or free clinic should be able to make you stop smoking if you want treated, that is unfair in my book and like I said before I am on thses pills called Chantix to stop smoking that the free clinic gave me so I guess for right now I do care about my health cuz I am not smoking but when I stop going to the clinic I will start up again.

Health care is pretty expensive. I've tried going on private insurance. I'm 24, non smoking, and take no medications and for me to go on private health insurance for the basics was pretty expensive. I got a quote for maternity insurance to be added. I'm in a long term committed relationship and though we use birth control surprises do happen and I want to be protected. I hate the idea that I would have to use Healthy Start if the situation happen to arise. Anyway to add maternity coverage would have cost me an additional 500 dollars a month
