SAN MARCOS, Texas -- A police officer was accused of inappropriate behavior after his misconduct may have resulted in a dog's death, ABC News reported.

Officer Paul Stephens pulled over Michael Gonzalez for speeding at 100 miles an hour down an interstate highway, prompting the driver to get out of the car, saying, "He's dying."

Gonzales and his girlfriend Krystal Hernandez explained that they were speeding to reach a veterinary clinic because their pet poodle Missy was choking.

The dashboard camera of the police car shows Officer Stephens yelling and criticizing the couple for putting other people's lives at risk for a dog.

(These poor people offered the police a number of options that would have permitted the police to ticket them but still get the dog to the vet...the cop made the decision that issuing the ticket was more important than the life of the dog or the pain of a family trying to save their beloved pets life...)

Serves those people right. If they don't speed, they never get pulled over and their dog probably lives.

Of course, if these people would've ran over an
8 year old, killing the kid, it still would've
been okay since their dog was more important than a human life. Heck, if this did happen,
they should'nt even have to stop. Just pin a note to the dead kid, saying sorry, you have
more important places to go.

jcl, a little over the top there, but in theory you are correct.

it's just a dog for crapps sake. sad, but it's still just a dog, not a human.

Yes, it is a dog - but the dog was choking to death. People's pets are like their "kids" to some, and no one wants to watch their pet die an agonizing death.
People speed every day for many stupid reasons - late for work, late for an appointment, road rage, etc. The cop could have given these people a break and let them get to the Vet to save their pet! What an incompassionate arsehole! IMO

If it would of been a police dog would the outcome have been different. I bet that it would. Those dogs are the officers partners. If one was shot you would still do time if it would have been a human. Is that really fair.

I don't get some logic here. If they run over someones son, daughter, brother, sister, husband, or wife its OK because they got their do to the hospital. Makes perfect sense! I understand that some pets can be like children, but there has to be somewhere to draw the line. I know they didn't hurt anyone , but what if they did? Would they tell the family of the person, "I am sorry about your loved one, but I had to get my dog to the vet!" I'd have a little trouble with that.

Then that would have been a different blog. They did NOT hurt anyone in this instance, so the story is a different scenario. Can anyone say that they have NEVER sped once in their whole life while driving?

All I'm saying is that the cop could have said, "Your dog is dying. I'll let you go or I'll meet you at the Vets office to give you your ticket while your dog is being attended to. Drive the speed limit to get there. I'll follow you." Now, the dog may have died anyway, but at least he could say that he did his best to help the dog, and still give the driver a ticket.

Girlscout I agree we have all sped at some point or another for stupid reasons. It was a mistake but it could of been handled with more care

I care a great deal about animal welfare. I am appalled by the amount of animal abuse that is reported daily and I use every opportunity I have to push for stronger laws to punish those who abuse innocent animals.I strongly encourage everyone who agrees to speak out for animals. I consider myself an independent- not aligned with the Republican or Democratic party. I love the United States with a passion and offer insight and criticism to make this country as great as our Founding Fathers envisioned.
