HI everyone,

I am sure we all have talked about this once or twice.  I am trying to find out the bill on the ballet this November about the "outlaw dog bill."

I know about the "pit bull" dog ban, yet my brother was telling me that they are having it outlaw all aggressive dogs.  We just aquired an Akita in May of this year.  He is five months old.

This makes me nervous.  Any dog can be aggressive it is only in the way one trains their dog.

If someone could explain or let me know where I can read about this that would be great.

Thanks ,

Hillbilly

Hillbilly, there are a couple of things you can do now to help prevent any issues if the bill is passed and Akita's are deemed aggressive....
Check your home owners insurance, make sure that they do not have the agressive dog clause, they most likely do but you need to find out what breeds are on their list and if they offer riders for owner ship of a dog... (I would have someone else call, someone not insured by your current carrier and just ask the questions so they do not cancel your insurance).

Another thing you can do is take your pup to training, even the classes that are held in the back of PetSmart and the like... you can have your pup "certified" as a good citizen or non- agressive pup.. this may help if the bill passes and you have to fight to keep your dog..

I am hoping that the bill is not passed as I believe that there are no bad dogs, just bad owners Good Luck and keep us posted..

Thanks chemist and girlscout. We do have someone helping us train him. Someone who does training in our home town. $75.00 for 8wks and they get all the training and do get their cerficiates. I do like Petsmart, yet the only thing that made me go to someone else was the way they train. With treats. I want my dog to listen to my voice and come on command by what I say not by treat. So, far it has worked. HE has come along way. So, sad that certain dogs have to be outlawed due to their owners. HE is a beautiful dog, as you can see in my box about me. His name is Bear and he is so loveable and he gets lots of love, discipline and a lot of walking, exercise. Any dog can be aggresive if you train that way. Thanks again for all your input.
Hillbilly. Thanks girlscout for telling me about chum-wheatley. I deleted him.. I could never stand Pablo and his way of speaking. Sad people have to be so dumb. HE knows better. Just have to pray for people like just a little harder.

email the Humae Society, or ASPCA, they will know about it and where to send you for all the correct info. your right any dog can be aggressive- its the owners who need obedience training. i had 4 wonderful rottweilers from 1984 to 2007, they were magnificant friends and companions and never bit anyone or any otther animal.good luck
