girlscout's Blog

Someone wrote a blog back in May about getting gardens started and put out a challenge to announce when we got our first red tomato. Today I picked my first red tomato (albeit , a small one!) This week I also harvested 2 banana peppers, 2 zucchini and 4 yellow squash. There's a couple of yellow and green beans out there, but not enough to pick yet. All this extremely hot weather is turning my garden into a jungle earlier than ever this year. Usually we don't get tomatoes or squash until the end of July. Of course, I have to faithfully water the garden every other night because of the lack of rain. Tell me about your garden!

I love squash! I buy squash and my granma cooks it for me! They taste great fried and buttered. Also baby tomatoes are delice! Nothing is worse than buying a tomatoe from the store which has been frozen, or touched by hundreds of different people and has all sorts of unnatural chemicals on it!

My husband and I are going camping this week and I'm taking some zucchini with me to cook on the grill. Marinate them in some Italian dressing, then throw on the grill - Mm-Mm good! Between the grilled squash, some veggie hot dogs cooked over the campfire, and running around naked in the woods, we'll have a great time! LOL!!!!!!!

Thats a funny one girlscout!!! I got my first few heads of cabbage a week or so ago. I have had zucchini coming faster than I can eat them. I got my first red tomato 2 days ago. Yeah it is a hard year for a garden thats for sure. Alot of weed picking, spraying for bugs, and watering like no other year. My corn and green beans that I planted 2x because the first set(even thought we left them in) didnt look so good, all are doing badly. But on top of the things that are fruiting now, my watermelon plant looks like it is in great shape and so do my grapes(for wine making). I take the good with the bad though...what are you gonna do? Take care all.

If yo'll be running around in the woods naked, don't forget the Calamine lotion.
p.s. - Where will you be camping?

I'm back! We went camping at Charles Mill Lake down near Mansfield. We did some swimming, biking, visted Amish and ate lots of good food! (including those zucchini's)! Now I just have to get used to wearing these clothes again - they're SO confining!!
P.S. One good thing about a drought - NO MOSQUITO'S!!!!!!! No need for calamine lotion either - after all, I AM a Girl Scout and can identify it with no problem!
And I came home to LOTS more tomatoes!

girlscout- Working in lanscaping this summer, and got a bad case of poison Ivy or poison Sumac, and need to get back to work! I'm using Aveeno bath, Hydrocortisone cream. Do you know any thing else (besides the pink stuff, which never works!)?

A severe case of poison ivy needs a doctors care. I had such a bad case after a camping trip years ago, that my skin started turning black and falling off! They had to presecribe steroids for me. I would say if the Aveeno bath and hydracortisone cream don't help after a week, see a doctor.

LIFE is not a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in a pretty and well-preserved body, but rather to skid in broadside, totally worn out and proclaiming, "WOW - WHAT A RIDE"!!!!!
