The holiday season is upon us.  The economy stinks and retailers our doing everything to get us into their stores.  Gimmicks galore.  One retailer will be opening their doors at 4AM on Friday.  At 4AM on Friday I hope to be under the blankets and cozy.  I am an early riser, but it will take alot more than a $99.00 GPS or a $400.00 flat screen  TV out the door.  Will anyone be out there?  I guess they think someone will or they wouldn't bother opening their doors so early.  Even worse then that,  another major retailer is open on Thanksgiving Day.  Those poor employees who have to give up their Turkey Dinner and spend it behind a register.  I guess some people delay dinner for the football game but for a trip to that K-Store just doesn't sound right for some reason.  I'm guessing people will turn up, but I just ask why????

Dave, when it comes to Black Friday, as I've been telling everyone who asks if I plan on shopping, I'm crazy, NOT stupid. There IS a difference. 4am Thursday? If I'm not debugging the game I'm trying to write for my Zune, then I'll be doing something else around my house. Ain't NO way in Hades I'm leaving it at all Friday, except maybe to get the mail.

I used to know someone who worked for the store you're talking about, btw. They asked one year why the store's open on Easter and were told "Oh, that's just a religious holiday". (Keep in mind, said store is closed on Christmas, which is another religious holiday.) I'm guessing if the holiday doesn't fit the store's religion (Capitalism), they're gonna be open. Now, I know family can drive you nuts on holidays like Thanksgiving...I dunno about anyone else, but for me, shopping isn't the cure for that. A good ol' food-induced coma is!

Been there done that and I would be up but certainly not leaving the house. One case I must say Shopping is better. But Chip, I do get what you are saying. Happy Turkey day......

Black Friday,Our lousy economy, $99.oo GPS's, $400.oo Flat screen TV's, Man we got it so tough in this country
I just watched a story of a family in India.
Living a slum of one room shacks the size of most of our kitchens, One toilet between 12 families, running water for one hour a day, and the only worker in the family is the wife as a maid for some richer family and only makes two dollars a day for a family of three.
Can you imagine living in conditions like that?
What a blessing to be able to have a black Friday this dam world is so screwed up.
I'm not being sarcastic, at you blog Dave; I am just so blown away after watching this short story on the news of the conditions some people live under in other countries.
Now I don't feel so bad that I'm broke and can't go shopping at four am! hell I live like a dam king

Kevin, I know exactly what you speak of. Either Maria or Kim asked what are you grateful for, my response was to be living here in the USA. Not everyone has it wonderful here, but even with the crappy economy there are services available that no one should have to go hungry.

Chip, you don't need to take up crack. Just come hang out with me when I go BACK to Maine to give my great-uncle a crash course in MP3 players. It should prove entertaining enough. ;-)

Actually, Chip, I was nice on the drive yesterday and played waaaaay old-school country. And I'll be helping my great-uncle load the mp3 player I've ordered for him with the same. (Who's on crack now? :-P)

My little brother works at Best Buy. He had to report to work at MIDNIGHT last night! What the hell?? Does no one else give themselves a food coma on Thanksgiving???!!!

At 4am, I was having some very questionable food-induced dreams. I was NOT and will NEVER be at a freakin' store shopping.

Chip, wanna know something that'll make you faint again? Most of the old-school country is actually from my own CD collection. (Learn something new every day, don'tcha? :-P)
