Now I'm not sure I get exactly what is going on with these oil and gas prices? I watched that evening News today and they say Bush went to them Arabs and asked for more oil Production and they said no cus they already did last week by 3%.  Now Bush gonna stop filling them reserves we got to drop the price of fuel at the pump. How is that gonna help? Now If them fuel prices at the pump is high due to not enough refinery of the oil like them experts are saying, Why in the world Don't the Government or big oil just go ahead and build more refineries? Them Arabs say they have no demand from any countries for more oil other then that 3% last week and have no shortage in supply of that crued oil. Only shortage is supply of refined oil cuz there aint enough refineries that turn that oil into gas for the pump. So build more then? We did it with President Hover When we needed more energy and they built that Hover Dam back in the day and created a whole mess of work and A big city to boot now call Vegas. If the government can't do it today cus they broke, Then Why don't some real rich folk build a refinery or two and make money in doing so if thats all we need. Sounds to me like whoever builds another refinery or two would sure be making a sure thing investment and return on their money, not to mention the creation of jobs to build and run them refineries with a result in lower fuel prices at the pump since Shortness of refined oil is what they say causing this mess.

"Despite surging gas prices, Democrats refuse to drill or develop national reserves. Democrats refuse to approve new refineries. Democrats also refuse nuclear energy."

There is already a bonanza of oil under U.S. soil. The big oil companies cannot make nearly the profit on domestic oil as they can on imported oil. As for refineries, part of the tax abatement that was given to big oil was supposed to build new refineries. Have you seen any ? What we have seen is King`s ransom retirement packages for CEO`s, gasoline prices shooting through the roof, and skyscraper HQ`s being built all over the country. Now can you put 2+2 together ?

In 1979, President Carter Refused To Eliminate Federal Price Caps - Against The Advice Of His Own Energy Secretary. "Energy Secretary
James R. Schlesinger, in particular, had argued that lifting Federal price caps and abolishing the government's Byzantine allocation system would go a
long way toward spurring conservation, allocating scarce fuel more efficiently and eliminating lines at the gas pump. But Carter vetoed the idea." (Merrill Sheils, "The Energy Plan," Newsweek, July 23, 1979) (emphasis added)

With a price cap on domestic oil, big oil can charge whatever they want om imported oil. The profit margin is much greater.

Theres a difference between drilling for oil and refining it. From what I understand the price on a barrel of crude is way up cus the demand for that refined oil "GASOLINE" is what we in shortage of cus the shortage of refineries not oil wells or oil drillers. They said on the news with that Katie Kuric That Oil is way up cus refineries that turn that oil into "gasoline" can't keep up with the production and demand. So when the gasoline production slow, demand for oil slow and the Arabs raise the price of oil. That is what they said.

I want to add that teh 3% increase them Arabs was talking about was just a slight adjustment for them other nations like China and India that is growing in population and people starting to drive cars.

I want to know what happened to the requirement in populace countries where in order to own a car, you must first prove you have a place to park it.

Good comments Drey. To build more refineries and drill for oil seems to be an obvious solution to the problem. The Republican congress during Bush 43 tried to make this appeal to the American people. However, Liberals in power, and Liberal agencies like the EPA have the process so tied up in RED tape and regulation that it would take ten years to build a new refinery. Imagine building refineries during the first Bush years, it’s easy if you try. We would be only a year or so away from being SO dependant on foreign oil. But Liberals in Congress and environmental wackos who worship the earth, and put trees ahead of people, blocked the moves. To be honest, environmentalists and those same Liberals in power in Congress approve of you paying more at the pump. The more it costs you, the less you use, and the happier they are.

I haven't heard of that in reference to other countries. I have heard of that in reference to New York City because of the shortage of space in that city. I don't currently know anyone that lives in N.Y.C. but I did know a few people forty years ago. The same problem existed then as now. None of the people that I knew owned cars. It was just as fast if not faster to get around the city by using public transportation and there was no hassel trying to find a place to park. Me? I always parked in Central Park and used the bus whenever I drove into the city.

Mr. Drey,
I also have heard that we have a shortage in refining capacity. Plus there has not been a new refinery built in many years. If you can organize a company to build a refinery I can step up to buy a $100.00 share of that company.

Hybrid - Why did big oil get tax abatements for building new refineries and new exploration yet congress wouldn`t let them do it ? `Sounds like money making schemes to me. Something STINKS in D.C. What do you think ?

Mr.Shadowknows, I bet people is laughing thinking a $100.00 aint nothing. But you and I both know that $100.00 will be all we need to get rich if that refinery was built and we both invested that little bit of money right? Good day to you all mr.caseyhones and mr.hybridtalk. are you enjoying that sunshine we got outside today?

Mr. Hybridtalk, I heard someplace that we only got us "three" Refineries in this country that change oil into gasoline and diesel fuel. And only two are ever working at the same time so one can shut down for maintenance. and during storms or floods/ problems we often end up with only one refinery working makeing that gas and diesel. And it been like that for a whole mess of years. You would think with the jump in people driving and such they would have figured by now three refineries aint gonna be enough. I bet that big oil don't even care to build cus that gives them reason to keep them prices high due to supply and demand.
