I don't know about other people but I have always been honest with my kids; I have never told them they could sing! I have also said " DO NOT TRY OUT FOR AMERICAN IDOL" Please don't embarrass yourselves and your family. I cannot believe the number of contestants who really believe they can sing! Apparantley no one loved them enough to tell them the truth.
Think about it; we have all seen parents at the auditions encouraging their kids to press forward, to only find themselves humiliated and breduced to tears after hearing the truth from the judges- YOU CAN'T SING!!

I think a lot of them KNOW they can't sing - but they get their 15 minutes of fame (like William Hung from a few seasons ago). Now this season the fat kid and monkey boy from Seattle are on talk shows all across the country!!

With five kids you see lots of talent, and you also see lack of talent. I always tried to vere my ghildren towards things they liked but also things they were talented in. I never really could lie to them about the fact they were not good in something even if I wanted to. My facial expression would give it away!

15 minutes of pain maybe! The fact still remains so many of them really do believe they are talented singers; yes there are some who know they don't have what it takes and that's on them! Those who truly believe they can sing have been crushed and just watching that really makes me wonder if they'll recover from that sort of criticism. One thing for sure, the initial auditions are very entertaining.

I agree with the fact that no one loved or was a good enough friend to tell some of these jokers that they CAN NOT sing. But to walk out the door and cuss Randy, Simon and Paula for doing their jobs, is ridulous. And totally funny. I have been rolling on the floor since the try outs started. hehehe

The thing that cracks me up is that she was serious. Maybe she thought they would start an Idol Boot Camp just for her. As far as being an American idol goes those who walk out cussing at the judges just gave one more reason why aren't Idol material.
