Fall is a great time to fix up your yard.  Let mother nature do it naturally.  The days have started to get shorter, which presents a great time for natural growing.

If you lawn has bare spots or was damaged by the summer sun, now is the time to fix it.  I get the best results for lawn patching during September.  First you want to get some grass seed with a high content of Kentucky Blue Grass.  You can read the seed mix right on the bag.  Also get yourself a bag or two of the patchmaster.  This is the green fertilizer and grass mixture.  Cover your effected spots with the raw grass seed and then cover it over with some of the patchmaster fertilizer.  What will happen is the patchmaster will keep the moisture in and start the growing of the cheap seed in the formula to give you a good start and the Kentucky Blue grass under it will eventually take over.  You want to water it daily and do not cut those spots for at least 10 days to give it a good start.

To spruce the lawn up from the summer damage, hit the entire yard with a high nitrogen content bag fertalizer in the granular form.  These longer nights produce ideal conditions for dew on the yard for natural water and enough daytime sunshine to promote the growing and greening.

Happy Gardening!

Fox 8 weatherman Scott Sabol has some great hurricane information on his blog, but I have one very important question.

When a hurrican is coming why do people do such dumb things?

In New Orleans, people had a week of warnings and they didn't leave.  A few days ago regarding this most recent hurricane in Florida, I saw a guy who was trying to go parasailing on the beach.  The winds not only dragged him across the beach, but across the street.  Now that is a brain surgeon.

What is the point of staying.  If you are told to evacuate, just leave!

It is hard to believe that summer is almost over and school will start in a few weeks.  Have a happy Sunday!
