A short pursuit Monday night resulted in a car crashing into an occupied North Royalton home, Fox 8's David Nethers reports.

A spokesperson with the North Royalton Police Department tells Fox 8 News that at approximately 9 p.m. a speeding car triggered what they are referring to as a "short pursuit."

The incident, authorities say, never escalated to a chase.

It never escalated to a chase, yet the car wound up in the living room of a house.  I often ask myself is the pursuit really worth it.  I know the driver of the vehicle most likely did something wrong to warrant the pursuit, but when is enough going to be enough.  I was once passed on the highway by a car going the wrong way after a robbery.  Then passed by a police car also going the wrong way.  One exit later the car crashed head on into another car.  Let's see 60 mph and one short highway exit.  That missed me by what, 60 seconds at most.  Sometimes the pursuit just isn't worth the end result.

So if you`re not going to be pursued, isn`t that giving "carte-blanc to perpetrators ?

I am asking when does the offense warrant the pursuit. Is it worth a pursuit for someone who ran a stop sign? NO. Is it worth it for a bank robber? YES. I am just saying that some judgement can play into the decision to continue the pursuit.

Yes, hot pursuit. The kind when lives are in danger as a result.
