After reading Andre Bernier's comments in the Plain Dealer, I decided to check out his website. It was just as I suspected, he is a far right-wing religious fundamentalist spewing anti-science rhetoric similar to that of blowhards like Rush Limbaugh or Sean Insanity. Anyone who has had elementary science, has heard of previous periods of warming and cooling of the planet. And some of us have heard of THEORIES such as sunspot activity or the solar system passing thru one of the arms of the galaxy, that greatly affect the climate of the planet. These are THEORIES not FACT. But even a lowly automechanic such as myself know the scientific FACT that gases such as carbon dioxide, whether natural or manmade, have the chemical properties necessary to contain heat. For the record, having an AMS certificate does not make you a climate scientist, it just means you have a rudimentary knowledge of weather patterns. Andre, leave your ideology at church, and the science to scientist.
Factually yours,
Rick Putka

By now, you probably have seen the front page of the Plain Dealer Wednesday concerning the Global Warming issue and the opinions of the most prominent Meteorologists in Cleveland. You know what, they are all right on.
Their opinions are not politically motivated or biased contrary to popular belief. They are not pro-oil company or fitting some conservate agenda. In fact, some meteorologists are very liberal in their politics. So you can count on their opinions to be objective and soley based on scientific data from experts in the field of climatology.
Meteorologists and climatologists are required to study not only the basic interactions involved in the atmosphere as a whole and on the small scale but also the complex dynamical elements which are the root of the computer modeling that goes into forecasting temperature on the small scale as well as the large, global, climaatic scale. I can speak only for myself when I say that the mathematics and the science in an undergraduate 4 year program in Meteorology is very tedious. Imagine math without numbers. Imagine visualizing the sky in an arena that has only equatations. Climate computer modeling of the atmosphere can be a very nebulous discipline not easily visualized unless you have the necessary background.
What is my point? Its two fold.
First, Don't look at television meteorologists as non-scientists who are not qualified to make educated, scientific opinions. Many have gone through the schooling necessary to work at the National Weather Service or the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration. The fact that they are "on television" is irrelevant. Second, the results of these climate computer models that have predicted human-caused climate change are all SUBJECT TO ERROR.
At the heart of climate prediction is "computer modeling" and the data that is used in the model. If either are flawed then the results can be skewed, often substantially. Many of these errors are being challenged by other scientists who have nothing to gain by speaking out on this subject. In summary, human caused global warming is NOT BELIEVED BY ALL SCIENTISTS. ITS NOT A CONCENSUS NOR HAS IT EVER BEEN A CONCENSUS.
Coming up next week, I will go into the cyclical factors that are effecting our climate that CANNOT be debated.

Out of all the holidays in the year, this one is my very favorite. It's a time for family, bounty and to marvel and the countless blessings that we enjoy by God's boundless grace.
Yesterday, the day before Thanksgiving, I made a run to Heinen's grocery store. It did not dawn on me that it was likely to be busy. It was. In fact, I was lucky to find a parking spot at the end of the lot. The inside was packed. People were zipping around in their carts, bumping into one another, reaching, grabbing.... but everyone... and I do mean everyone was in a jovial mood!
It was a pleasure to do some people watching as I grabbed the few items that I needed. The mood was contagious and intoxicating.
How can this be? The world economy is a mess, jobless rate is up and if you watch the news long enough you are bound to believe that we are headed for the depths of the unknown and we should be fearful.
There's a great lesson in what I witnessed on Wednesday. Joy and contentment are not dependent on external circumstances. True joy is derived from our Creator in all circumstances.
Happy Thanksgiving, everyone. I am thankful for all of you.

This question is asked of me so many times by school kids doing projects that I wanted to write a BLOG ENTRY on this. I also featured this in one of my Scott Segments during the 7AM MORNING SHOW Monday the 24th of November.
So where would you end up if you dug a hole from Cleveland to the other side of the world?
Here is the map from the website. Check out this link...play around with it.

I live here in Andover, i f for some out there who don't know where that is it's in Ashtabula county about 3 miles from PA. Leaving here we get alot of snow specially if it's lake effect snow so we constantly watch the weather in the winter. I love this time of the year cause of the hoildays, but not so much for the snow. I know I should be use to it. I have lived in this county all my life and I'm still not use ot it. Every year it's differant. This one just started a little bit earlier then most. I have to travel 25 miles to work at 9 at night and let me tell you back country roads are never plowed in the winter. Your lucky if what we call main rds out here are plowed. Well i guess i have complained enough about something I have no control over. So I will blog another day about life here in the country.

I am trying to make the best of a weird situation, but I am not liking this weather. I have a hard time getting motivated to go to work. I am tired of listening to the forecast first thing every morning. I fine myself glued to the T.V. trying to find out the best route to take for my comute to work. Some people I talk to are so happy about the snow. Good for them I say. I can't wait to get this season over with. I enjoy the fall, spring and summer. Oh wait a minute this is still considered fall. Winter doesn't start until December 21st. See we are getting cheated..

Its not even Thanksgiving yet and we are about to get blasted with another round of lake effect this week. This snow event looks to be STRONGER AND LONGER than the first one.
The snow also accompanies the coldest high temps since early March.
Why? Two reasons: MORE MOISTURE AND COLDER AIR
Here are our initial "guess-timates" of snowfall through Friday evening. THIS DOES NOT COUNT FRIDAY NIGHT LAKE EFFECT.
STAY TUNED...

I have uploaded photos from the snow storm we had in March of this year. Once they're approved then I can figure out how to show them off =) I know how bad it was here in Akron and can only imagine what was going on in Cleveland at that time. I lost the transmission in my car during that storm trying to fight my way through the snow to get to the store. I wish I didn't have to go out in it, but I had no choice. Cars were everywhere spun out, stuck and wrecked. Hopefully mother nature will show a little mercy this winter.

When the weather, changes around here, it REALLY changes and abruptly at that.
Hard to believe that we've had 4 days in the 70s this month considering that the highs might not make it above freezing later this week.
Check out these stats: The average high the first week of November was 67 degrees! The average high since 48.
We'll have three distinct lake effect/cold front events from now until early Thanksgiving week. The first one Monday and Tuesday, the second one Thursday/Friday, the third Sunday/Monday.
Temps stay at or below 40 for the next week.
With La Nina slowly gaining strength, we can expect more large swings from warm/mild to arctic as the winter continues.....hopefully higher than 40!
