BEIJING (AP) - President Bush on Monday sharply criticized Moscow's harsh military crackdown in the former Soviet republic of Georgia, saying the violence is unacceptable and Russia's response is disproportionate.

The United States is waging an all-out campaign to get Russia to halt its retaliation against Georgia for trying to take control of the breakaway province of South Ossetia.

Bush, in an interview with NBC Sports, said, "I've expressed my grave concern about the disproportionate response of Russia and that we strongly condemn the bombing outside of South Ossetia." He said he did so directly to Prime Minister Vladimir Putin, who's here for the Olympics, and by phone to Russian President Dmitri Medvedev.

On Sunday, Vice President Dick Cheney told Georgia's pro-American president that "Russian aggression must not go unanswered, and that its continuation would have serious consequences for its relations with the United States," Cheney's office reported.

IS THIS THE CHICKEN COMING HOME TO ROOST, OR WHAT ?

No chicken casey. Russia is not doing the right thing here by invading another country. Killing innocent women and children. It is not right and it should be condemned and Georgia should be defended.

not quite casey, i don't remember reading that the rulers in georgia were systematically slaughtering their own people with WMD's...........also, i don't believe there are any human rights issues in georgia either.........they aren't ruled by a despot who was hell bent on genocide. (ie: 100K kurds)

so, it's not the same at all casey

I agree with dprin on this one. Since when is a border issue the same as terrorists?

The bottom line is we had no legal standing to go to Iraq, we went based on lies and killed millions of innocent people and caused the death of thousands of our own.

Other countries did not support us going to Iraq because they did not believe there were WMD and they were right.

We were not "Right" in invading Iraq either, bottom line period!!!!!!

wow, okay everybody, the final authority on Iraq says bottom line period!!! LMAO

yes sir master medea!

sorry there lady, but your word is NOT the bottom line here.............and once again, i feel compelled to remind you of the subject matter of the post.........there is no comparison whatsoever between the two conflicts.

and frankly, MOST true americans don't really give a POOP what other countries think......i certainly don't.

dprin;

Don't feel compelled to remind me of anything. The bottom line period is USA should not have invaded IRAQ.

End of story.

Now that same comment as I would have posted if this place existed in 2003:

Would you care to explain how any of that is our business? Last time I checked, Hussein killed his own people, not Americans. The people responsible for killing our people were Saudi. Remembeer that?

"and frankly, MOST true americans don't really give a POOP what other countries think......i certainly don't."

Well, aren't you the diplomat!! LOL!

And that is exactly why the rest of the world hates us. There comes a time in your life when you realize there are other kids in the sandbox. Other kids who have just as much of a right to be in that sandbox. Either you accept that and become a Democrat inn touch with reality. Or yo do not accept it and become an angry Republican in a truck with a gun rack.

The conservatives are still trying to defend that moron`s actions, when the same actions are taking place and they say "Oh, that`s all right for our` Caesar to do it. We don`t care what the rest of the world thinks ! Hey, rest of the world ! It`s just terrible when the Russians do it ! IS THIS SPEAKING WITH FORKED TONGUE, OR WHAT ?

Vladimir Putin is saying that Georgia is guilty of genocide against Russians. He comparted Russia's actions to what the US did with Iraq and how the US took Sadam out of power for killing Iraqies. He has called the USA hypocrites, and is ignoring President Bush.

There was a news clip today on CNN.

Casey in Russia's eyes you are right in your assessment of this conflict and I agree with you also. The US has set a bad example for the world.

And Russia hasn't? Please, if there are terrorists that operate in the Middle Eastern countries that want to wipe the Western world and Israel...isn't it time someone other than Israel takes them out?

Casey, our President is always saying we live in a global society and that is why we have free trade etc. etc.

Therefore, if we are operating on the world stage and we live in a global society then what the rest of world thinks about us does matter.

Those who think it does not matter what the world thinks of us are not informed citizens and more then likely not informed voters.

This explains how we got 2 terms of George W. Bush when we should not have gotten the 1st term.

Wake-up America, nap time is over!!!

Does anyone know why Russia attacked Georgia??

South Ossetia, with a population of about 70,000, declared independence from Georgia in the early 1990s, but it was not internationally recognized. Many ethnic Ossetians feel close to Russia and have Russian passports and use its currency.

Russian President Dmitry Medvedev, quoted by Interfax, said Russians had died because of Georgian military operations in South Ossetia.

Russia "will not allow the deaths of our compatriots to go unpunished," and "those guilty will receive due punishment," he said. "My duty as Russian president is to safeguard the lives and dignity of Russian citizens, wherever they are. This is what is behind the logic of the steps we are undertaking now."

I think China got it right when their leader said it's none of our business, We are only defending Georgia because they are PRO- American, what would we be doing if Russia was pro- American.

Any war is bad, but compairing the Iraq war and the Georgia war, ARE YOU NUTS!!!!!

I feel Russia has the right to defend people that want to live by their rule.

Russia is not trying to take over Georga, Russia is defending it's self and defending South Ossetia, Georgia bit off more then they can chew.

Ah,Captain. Russia now says, "Georgian President must go !" Does that sound anything like "Saddam must go !" We, in bold aggression, violated "the prime directive" in Iraq. Their` government was a government unlike our`own, but it was their`s. Two different sources now say that Bush sought to invade Iraq from day one. The comparison does exist, for those with open eyes, ears, and minds to behold. Trust "Starfleet" (unbiased) updates and not "Klingon" (Bush propaganda) updates on this one. FOLLOW THE PRIME DIRECTIVE !

I am 70 yrs. old and I have never seen our country in such dire straits as it is today. I was born in W.Va., Grew up in Pa. with Bobby Vinton, and ended up in Oh. Back then, when you graduated from high school in W.Va.,Pa.,or Ky., you received a diploma and a road map to Ohio. I grew up in the 50`s and 60`s, so I know what really good times in our` country were. GOD BLESS AMERICA AGAIN !
