I don't see the big deal about breathalyzers. Like the principal said if it saves a few lives then it is worth it. Also if you are doing what you are suppose to (i.e. no under age drinking) taking a quick a test should be no big deal. I find the ones that make the biggest fuss about these kind of things or get all bent out of shape about being checked upon are the ones who are up to no good or are planning on doing what they are not suppose to anyway.

Drinking and prom is a big deal. I remember when I was in high school around prom time they would get people to sign Prom Promises (I signed them every year even though the first three I didn't go because of the nifty pens they give you). It was basically a promise that you would not drink and drive on prom night. If I remember correctly if you were killed in a drunk driving accident and no alcohol was found in your system, SADD or MADD would pay for your funeral costs.

I know my high school PTA hosted an after prom party after prom. Ran completely by parent volunteers who watched us (teachers watched us at prom). It was a big part of prom. This was to encourage us to not drink. It wasn't lame either. There was food and drinks. We had karaoke. Also there was an area where you played games for paper money. The paper money was traded in for tickets to be put into a raffle. Some people did leave early but the good majority of us stayed behind to see if they won a prize. There were door prizes. The prizes were pretty good too. I got a door prize of good shampoo, conditioner, and lotion. My tickets had won me a playstation 1. My friend won a tv.

In short our school provided for us a great time so that we didn't hurt ourselves. Those students need to realize that their school has their best interest at heart and if they are not doing something they shouldn't be then it is no big deal.

I just saw the other day on the news a clip about the growing # of teens coming to school drunk. It obviously must be a problem. Also the school not only has to provide reasonable safty for these prom goers. They are also legally accountable. Can you imagine the first time a teen leaves prom intoxicated (even though he/she probably came that way) gets into an accident and gets killed? The school would be sued to no ends. "THEY SHOULD HAVE SEEN MY CHILD INTOXICATED. THEY SHOULD HAVE CONTACTED ME! What a load of bull in my opinion. These schools have a rite to protect the other students and the rite to protect there behinds.

I agree that it is out of control. I just worry about how many more lives could possibly be lost because of it. If they are at prom they would sneak it hear and there...but now a group will probably leave early to go to a party where they are gonna ended up BLEEP faced instead of buzzed. We all know on prom night most kids drink. Also what happens if they do fail the breathalizer...will they be suspended and punished by the school or are they contacting the parents and let the parents do the punishment?? I just don't wanna see prom becoming a thing that no one goes to and has parties everywhere instead but I also don't want to see anyone hurt or dead. Hopefully this breathalizer decision saves lives and doesn't create more deaths. Like it or not there is always parties somewhere on prom night and I prey the kids still want to go and stay at prom instead of leave and go to the party because prom will be so uptight. And after all at that age they are so rebelious or just want to "fit" in...which I know isn't a good excuse but in those kids minds...it is.

I believe if a student is found drunk they will be suspended and not allowed to be at prom
