I have visited a number of bars and restaurants that are complying with the state 'no-smoking' law. It has been over a month now and I am finding that I have reduced the number of bars that I can visit because of the delay in the enforcement rules. PLEASE let everyone know of the local bars that ARE COMPLYING! I realize it will only be a handful but we should push to support those who are following the law.

Don't know what area you go into, but almost every bar I pass on my way to and from work (which are quite a bit) has the signs up and appear to be honoring the ban. I don't do bars, anymore (haven't in a long time) but many people I know who frequent all types of bars, have stated that every place they've gone to has complied.

Would you be willing to sponsor a cigar efficiando gathering in your living room? You seem like someone who deserves...I mean appreciate that. Hehe

What are you doing in bars anyway? Bars are for smokers and drinkers. Stay at home with your family, if you've got one.

clevebtch, I would appreciate the names of the establishments if you have them. I would like to visit those who are complying. Many of the small bars in my immediate area are not complying so I've been visiting the chain restaurants.

Pablo_Kielbasa, Nice...Some bars have good food and places to play pool, darts, foosball, air hockey, etc. I also like beer! I am going to the bar WITH my family. No, they are not under 21.

Just returned from a road trip to Indiana - in the towns that we drove through we saw very few of the required signs on doors on any businesses and many places were still permitting smoking. I know in my county there are very few places that are fully complying. I've spoken with a number of business owners and they are not going to comply - two places have already closed and are moving out of state. Florida allows smoking in bars and both places are going south!

Can't say anything about Cleveland as I never go there.

Since there really is no way to enforce the new 'law' smokers are still smoking. They will get warned and then removed from the building if they ignore the warning...but as far as I remember reading there will be no enforcement by fines or tickets until late spring...if it survives consitutional review from the state...

greentea, Thanks for the info! I remember not to go to a bar in Florida. At least not until they pass the same law...

FlyingChanges11, The public comment period is over today. There should be another meeting before the final adoption of the enforcement laws so I anticipate early February, everyone will be complying or risk fines/tickets. Smoking restrictions have been enforced in many states and, even with constitutional reviews in many states, the public restriction on smoking has never been found unconstitutional.

I can't wait to see all those pretty no-smoking signs pasted all over town. Every place that allows the public to enter must have on. Courthouses, all downtown businesses, social clubs, churches, EVERYWHERE. And there is a regulation on how large the sign has to be. Signs must be posted in a conspicuous location. Signs for businesses must be at least 4" x 6".
Signs shall be posted in the following locations of public places and places of
employment:
(1) at all points of transition from areas where smoking is not regulated by
Chapter 3794. of the Revised Code or this chapter to all areas that are
regulated;
(2) at all points of access to separately controlled areas and points of transition
from one area of control to another; and,
(3) in areas of high utilization.
Yes, even you church will need to post a sign in the sanctuary, one in the annex, and at every entrance. The will need signs in hallways, in restrooms. And anyone not posting the required signs will be in noncompliance

I think we need to say the ones that do and the ones that don't so we know who to avoid as well.

In Elyria, Rocka's on Cleveland Street/Center Ridge, is breaking the law and allowing smoking

In Elyria, SideLines on Fairlawn Ave is breaking the law and allowing smoking theya re still providing ashtrays and their no smoking signs are not visible when you walk in, you have to find them.

I have been to Luchita's on Abbe Road, in Elyria and they are following the ban and not allowing smoking.

Good point, ladalang! I just found out that the Boneyard in Broadview Heights is complying! They were not--the last time I was there.
I need to know local bars--those who feel their business will be reduced because of the new law. It doesn't matter what city. I am willing to travel to support them. Thanks!

Sorry, Betrob - I just don't go to bars nor do I go to Cleveland. I must applaud you though for supporting the establishments that are complying as I'd hate to see them get hurt financially by this smoking ban.
