For once, a polititian makes sense. I agree with John Edwards and his suggestion that Americans sacrifice their SUVs. Americans contribute to 25% of the earth's greenhouse gases.

John Edwards was once the golden boy of the domocratic party for 2008, but he can't seem to get his message out when he goes around telling the people who are hurting and on very low income that he will save them, yet he lives in a mansion, and gets $400.00 hair cuts and I wonder what cars or SUV's he has.
And when he has something to say about another canidate he sends his wife out to do it for him. I would have voted for him in 2004 if he would have been at the top of the domocratic ticket, I liked that John Edwards then, but not the John Edwards of today.

I too at this point would have to question John Edwards as a candidate, but to be quite truthfull there is not a worthy candidate on either side of the ticket and this has been the case for several elections over the past few years. The politicians goals are first, serve yourself, second, serve your lobbyist, third, maybe give some thought on how this might affect the country. As for the SUV's, I agree to a point, if you have kids and they are active in sports or other activities and you need a SUV for hauling kids, equipment and so on, then I can see the need. But, if you are just trying to show off or up the Jones's, use some common sense and get rid of it.

I liked Edwards at first. But in my opinion he is a weak man. His wife runs the show. Which would be fine if she seemed to have any class or common sense about her. But she is another loud mouthed woman with no tact, and she made her husband look like a fool in my opinion. I would not consider voting for him now.

Edwards is an infantile nitwit who hides behind his wife's skirt to launch political attacks against his foes. If Edwards, and other Liberals who want to “save the earth” want to lead the way by changing their lifestyles, I support them. When they seek to force me to change my own lifestyle, they go to far and remind me of the Stalinist leaders they long to be.

john edwards is wasting his time & everyone's money. what a joke! everytime he opens his mouth, he contradicts himself. he so transparent, the only reason he gets more press than dennis kuchinich, who also is a joke that talks out of both sides of his mouth is that edwards is marginally good looking. he continues to hurt the dems with his hipocracy which in turn only helps the GOP, imagine that.

John Edwards says the American people should give up SUVs to save the earth from "Global Warming"? I wonder then, why he travels in business jets which emit HUNDREDS of times the amount of emissions as a Ford Excursion V-10. The Liberals always want us to "eat cake" while they watch from their self-appointed royalty. The Democratic Party has promised to help the working man for decades, and nothing EVER changes. BILLIONS of dollars have been taxed and spent on all kinds of pork over the years, including "entitlement programs", and the outcome has always been the same for the working man or woman. Many people have to work O/T just to make ends meet. Face it, socialism does NOT work and it NEVER will.

Wernerd630, On a lighter note, I just noticed your avatar. It won't be long before the John Edwards types will outlaw that greasy cheeseburger and fat laden fries that you appear to enjoy! I enjoy that stuff too, just add bacon to mine!

Just another example of idiotic Liberal hypocrisy. There ARE two Americas with Edwards. One where he has freedoms to do what he wants and another America where the common people do what people like Edwards (and Clinton, and Kerry etc...) tell them to do.

I don't even know where to start with Republican hypocrisy. How about the Republican politicians arrested for gay sex in the bathroom or Mark Foley abusing interns. Or the fact that Bush and most Iraq war supporters did not serve in the military, even when required. And now the children of the war supporting politicians also not in the military. As for two Americas, with the Republicans there are also two Americas- the one they live in with all their money and the one where the rest of us live. They have no problem f**king the poor and working people just to add to their money and greed. Edwards is not my favorite candidate, but I'd take him over Guilani ANY DAY!

Polarbear, I am Republican, I support the war on terror, AND I have a child fighting it! As for "where the rest of us live", please re-read my post. Republicans believe in the right and ability for/of people to help themselves. If that means inventing a new widget, then so be it. Don't rely on Uncle Sam to provide everything from cradle to grave. Let's say you invented an electric car that solved our gas problems, and your invention made you millions. You have put your kids thru school, built a nice home, etc., and now Government comes knocking to take YOUR money from you and GIVE it to someone who refuses to help himself. This is what many, but not all Democrats want to do. THEY want to decide how you should spend YOUR money and who shall receive it. How long would YOU sit still for that? Be honest.

Mrrick- I respect your opinion and as for your child, God bless them and I hope they make it through the war safe. It's great we have people serving our country, especially now.
I'm for welfare to help people in need and the system should be reformed to stop people from living their whole life on welfare. There should be help until they find a job. That's not what I meant in my comment. I'm talking about funding being taken away from police, fire and EMS services and the public school system. It's wrong that taxes are cut at the expense of important public services and the infrastructure, we saw that with the bridge collapse. One thing leads to another, if we have a strong education system and high graduation rates, more people find jobs and there is less dependence on welfare. If there is a strong police force, there is less crime and because there is better schools, less kids involved in crime. It's been a vicious cycle in Cleveland of school and police cutbacks. As for Republicans, they haven't done anything impressive lately. They've caused problems and shown they are hypocrites.

The police and EMS cutbacks were instituted by Democrats. I'm not trying to demonize one party over another (both are pretty sad IMO), but let's make that clear.
You are right about the vicious cycle of cutbacks in Cleveland, but you have to remember that some of that cycle could be slowed by issues that actually coincide with "Republican" policies regarding business growth. Tax incentives may cost the community property tax money in the short term, but they promote jobs (income tax $) and economic growth (future tax $). Try telling that to people like Dennis Kucinich, who looks at seemingly EVERY case of tax abatements and the like as "stealing" from the poor in the community for the benefit of big business alone. It's going to take some REAL big business activity to put this city back to work and stabilize its economy. You can't invest in the future without spending a little now, and this counts for more than just raw spending on social programs.
The Cleveland City Schools spend twice as much money PER STUDENT than many of the successful suburban school systems. Sounds like money may not be the cure-all to that one...a discussion for another day....

Erock- I agree both parties have problems. Most of the budget cuts(especially schools) happened in Ohio under Republican governor Bob Taft. And I agree about Cleveland, they need to spend their money better. Especially when they had the overpaid superintendent.
