I'm a volunteer for our local ferret shelter, so I am passing on this information for them. It's so amazing to see the way that people in our area work together to help others in need, despite the fact that some of those that give the most, have their own hardships.
~~~
Even though the shelter is crowded, understaffed and underfunded, the director of Northeastern Ohio's only ferret shelter is working to help a massive rescue effort in southern Ohio.
Ferrets Unlimited Ferret shelter in Cleveland, Ohio took two truckloads of supplies down to Lynx, Ohio to assist the rescuers who took in over 700 ferrets from a breeder who was apparently unable to care for the animals properly. Various animal welfare groups and shelters have been trying to work with law enforcement to force this breeder to provide humane conditions for the animals, or cease operation.
Ferret's Dream House, a shelter in Lynx, Ohio aggreed to take in over 700 neglected ferrets in an attempt to help them receive good homes around the country. This is a huge undertaking and caring for this large quantity of animals requires a large quantity of supplies.
If you are in the area and are interested in participating in this effort, Ferrets Unlimited is planning to take another truck down there on Wednesday, September 26, 2007 at 8:00 am.
They are gather for donations of paper towels, bleach, laundry soap, dish soap, hand sanitizer, toilet
paper and
snacks for the volunteers, pieces of fleece cut to about 8 x 18 (to cover the wire in the cage and a blanket), and trash bags.
Donations can be dropped off at Ferrets Unlimited, 4116 Bucyrus Avenue, Cleveland, Ohio 44109. Both shelters are 501c3 charities, so your donations are tax deductible.
Oh Wow! We just picked up a few copies of Dick Goddard's 2007 Weather Calendar and they are just gorgeous!
The pages include photos of Fox8 celebrities and their pets, as well as other pets from around our area. One of my photos is on the cover and the May page.
I was so thrilled to be able to participate in this wonderful fund raiser for our local animal shelters.
If you get a chance, stop by your local Drug Mart and pick up a few. They would make great stocking stuffers :)
I remember hearing the stories about the original meaning of Sweetest Day. The idea was to have a day to brighten the lives of people who needed it most, the sick, the orphans, etc. I love the idea of spending holidays doing something to help other people.
Because my family regularly volunteers at our local ferret shelter, I am very aware of how much work is involved in trying to save animals. So, when my husband asks me what I want for Sweetest Day, or my birthday, I tell him that I would like to spend it at the shelter. We still exchange little gifts, but the focus of our day is doing something nice for someone else.
My husband, my son, and I spent Sweetest Day at the ferret shelter. It was hard work because there are around 100 ferrets there and everyone needed fresh water, fresh food, clean beds, and some needed things like nail trims. We had a wonderful time, though. We had the chance to hug a few ferrets, and the woman that operates the shelter was able to go have lunch with her husband.
This was much better than going to dinner and a movie. I would highly recommend it, next time you are looking for something to do.
Well, this looks like a nice setup, so far. I like the interface, but the photo thing is a bit of a drag, since everything I do has to be approved. I wonder if if this post will need to be approved, too?
Anyway, this looks like a great community service, and I'm looking forward to playing with it a bit more.
I would love to be able to include a photo in a blog post. I wonder if that is possible?
I'm not sure about the categories, either. Is it important that our posts are newsworthy?
To make this fit into a category, one of my photos was selected for Andre's weather pics yesterday. That was fun!
It's really easy to submit a photo for that and it's fun to see your photos on the air. They archive the broadcast on the site, too.
