Why are people making a fuss over this movie? I've watched the trialer and it just seems like another fantasy movie to me! I dont think I would look at it any other way had it not been for others saying its about killing god...lol. Maybe the whole movie is different but to me it just looks like another childrens movie?

This is just another Right Wing Conservative Republican fake outrage.

First they went on and on about the Teletubbies in 1997 to 1999- because they thought it was trying to turn their children gay.

then they were all bothered by Harry Potter because the author is not a Christian, and there is a gay character in it.

Now they are stirring up some more Conservative garbage with this Golden Compass nonsense, because the author is a Christian.

by subtility and craftiness is Satan's way to overshadow the truths he does not want you to see & find.Just as he tricked Eve in the garden, by saying a half truth mixed with his lie..." yeah, hath God said.." and as you read the 1st chapter of Genesis count how many times it is quoted just in that chapter" and God said". this movie is all about miguiding and making the Lord a fairy tale. If satan can disguise the truth or lead one away from it he will, & he will use those in the world by his subtilities & lies.

I said this to compulady when she wrote the same blog: Is your Faith so tenuous, that a movie will change your spiritual beliefs?

"this movie is all about miguiding and making the Lord a fairy tale"-CAKhomelodge

The "Lord" or God is already a fairytale- a movie is just showing that truth.

O/T but...

I had a purple TeleTubbie once. Someone gave it to me.

I made a little sign for it that read: "I wuv Jerry Falwell" on it and gave it to a gay friend.

She thought it was hysterical.

I believe in god and I'm a Christian but I in no way think that this movie is bad. I think its just another fantasy movie like Harry Potter and The Lord of the Rings movies. Honestly I'd let my kids watch these fantasy movies before I'd let them see The Passion of the Christ....that movie to me was just disturbing! (Good movie, but very horrific!)

This book series is in fact a fantasy that is supposed to sway children from belief in God, for once, this is not a conservative blunder. The author is an outspoken atheist, and has said personally that the goal of the trilogy is to show children that belief in God is dumb. You can find the author's own stated intentions fairly easily on the net. The movie itself has had its critique of God toned down a bit.

Go to this link and you will see what the uproar is about. girlscout: please see my blog for an apology about the comments, but also know that I am not worried about being brainwashed nor am I worried about adults. The author's intent is to affect children. His timing for the release of the movie is to get parents' to take their kids to the movie, have the kids ask for the books for Christmas, and unbeknownst to the parents that the true story unfolds in the books. It is in the books that he portrays God as senile and where the little girl kills God. The author is counting on naive parents, please don't let him fool you!

To all you religious nuts quoting scripture: GIVE ME A BLEEP BREAK!! What does it say about YOUR faith and the faith of others if you think a fictional story will change people's minds. But then again you guys rely on many fictional stories like creationism and many others to recruit new members. Many of YOUR fictional stories are used to promote intolerance, prejudice and discrimination against others because of what YOUR RELIGIOUS LEADERS SAY GOD WANTS YOU TO DO. Has anyone ever interviewed God? No. Is there any absolute proof anything in the bible was written by God? No. NOBODY on earth has any idea what God thinks or says.

Gorbash, I find your willingness to be so outspoken about your beliefs admirable. I would think that you would desire everyone to be as honest and outspoken about their belief system as well. Please correct me if I am wrong in that assumption.

Assuming that is true and assuming that rpcollins1 is correct in his or her statements that the goal of the author of the books and movies is to show children that belief in God is dumb, aren't you not offended that the movie is not being promoted in that honestly?

I don't believe the movie should be banned. I do think people should be aware of the agenda of the author, if there truly is one (which from some of the comments here quoting the author it would seem likely to be true).

If the goal of the books and movie is to lead children from God and religion, then promote it that way and see if it has any support. I would be interested to see what would be the result of that type of truth in advertising.

Compulady said (snip) "...I am not worried about being brainwashed nor am I worried about adults. The author's intent is to affect children..."

Compulady - If this is true, then that makes me very happy, and I hope she succeeds. Why?

Because the churches have been brainwashing people - adults and children - for thousands of years.

Equal time, I say.

Sigh, more garbage by gorbash. It's supposed to be okay because it's being spewed by a "politically correct" liberal. As he himself once said, if garbage is repeated as truth often enough it becomes accepted as the real thing. And THAT is the danger!

I've just been advised by a friend that books are being banned from libraries by politically correct liberal librarians. Hmmm, banning books, isn't that exactly what Hitler and Stalin used to do?

While we're at it, lets change free speech also. Certain things are no longer politically correct. One must not say ONE NATION UNDER GOD!

Talk about a blatent attempt at brainwashing! Unfortunately, the liberals seem to be suceeding. As for me, I shall proudly remain, politically incorrect!

I LIKE MIKE!!!

polarbear, just an interesting thought for you.
The American Indians believed in God long before they ever heard of the bible. Nearly all cultures have a belief in God in one way or another. This has been so since even before the bible.
However, I also say that if you want an easy living, be a minister.

I LIKE MIKE!!!
