It's Merry Christmas. We go through a lot of motions to respect the "Religion of Peace" but the Christians have to be "unoffensive" to everyone else?

I feel, if you don't like the holiday don't celebrate it. Mind your own business if somebody else does celebrate it as a Christian.

In this world of political correctness everything is now the wimpy "happy holidays" or sterile "season's greetings."   I believe we should still say MERRY CHRISTMAS if we are talking about Christmas. But there are bleeding hearts out there who don't want to "offend" other religions ... I think it is outrageous.  We should be free to enjoy our holiday without restrictions that a few minority fringe groups want to impose upon us.   Do you think in non-Christian countries they say "Happy Holidays" instead of Ramadan or whatever to avoid "offending" others ? I don't think so ...

Supposedly we have freedom of religion in this country ... unless it seems if you're a Christian and it's Christmas time.

Where's the logic in celebrating a Christian holiday but trying to remove the Christianity from it?  Just so you can receive presents?  If that's it ... celebrate "Winter Solstice" then and pass gifts around for that.

Saying Merry XMas doesn't cut it either - substuting the X for CHRIST to get the Christianity out of the greeting.  It may be that the phrase "Merry XMas" makes you feel more *included* if you're not Christian ... but it certainly makes you feel less than comfortable and less "included" if you are a Christian.   If Christians make you feel uncomfortable or you're atheist ... don't pretend to be one by pretending to celebrate Christmas, and don't impose your narrow thinking on the rest of us.

The greeting is MERRY CHRISTMAS (and "Merry Christmas" translated into every language).  Period.  Take Political Correctness and burn it with the Yule Log!  :^)

While I agree on your points, a matter of correction. Xmas, does not take Christ out of Christmas! X is the Greek letter Chi, the first letter of Christos, or Christ. Its just an abbreviation, not and "X-ing" out of Christ.

Here we go with another Republican b.s. "war"

War on Drugs- Massive Propoganda campaign to take away our rights

War on Christmas- Massive Propoganda Campaign by Right Wing Christians to force religion onto the rest of us

War on Terror- Massive Propoganda campaign to get us to preemptively invade Iraq.

Darkjedi hit it on the head, it is an adaptation to the pagan holy day of Yule which is on Dec. 21. All Christian holidays are an adaptation to pagan holy days:
Samhain- Celtic new year- Oct.31(Halloween)
Yule-time of hearth and family-Dec.21(Christmas)
Imbolc-celebration of fertility- Feb.1 (groundhog day and St. Bridgits Day)
Ostara-Spring Equalnox-March21 (Easter)
Beltane-begining of the planting season-May1(May Day)
Summer Solstice-June21-
Lughnasadh-begining of the harvest-Aug.1
Mabon or Moonerric-Autumn equalnox-Sept.21

These are the Old Celtic Holyd days as it was before christianity ever existed. It has been the christians who made every Celtic belief look evil or magic or witches etc. christian propaganda. convert or be cast-out (or be killed) was the way of the christian movement.

I suspect that if we acted like Muslims, and stormed businesses with anger and torches when they disrespected our faith and our Holy day we would get a lot more respect. If we went to places like Target and turned their parking lots into a burning mass of SUVs and minivans, there would be a lot more respect of Christians. But that isn’t our way. Love our enemies, and do good to those who persecute you.

Just remember our King watches how all the people live and He watches their steps. Live for the Lord, and stay on message.

Have a blessed, Merry Christmas in Christ this year.

Last year, or maybe it was the year before, Target instructed their people to strike the word "Christmas" from their vocabulary. They didn't have Christmas trees, they had holiday trees. etc....

Also, they were told not to greet with "Merry Christmas" but Happy Holidays. It was in the Plain Dealer...

Good Lord! Why does everyone have to make a mountain out of a molehill?! Just wish Merry Christmas to the ones you know celebrate it. Just like I wish my Jewish friend "Happy Hanukah". If you don't know what someone celebrates, then just say "Happy Holidays" or "Happy New Year". And yes, I think it's silly for stores to only say "Happy Holidays". They are making billions of dollars on selling Christmas items, so they should be billed as "Christmas" items! If you don't celebrate Christmas, then don't say it!

That's absolutely false! i know for a personal fact that is not true of target. no employee has ever been told they couldn't say merry christmas and since when don't they have christmas trees? and you can use whatever greeting you want. I want you to go to a target right now and look up as you walk down the main aisle and tell me what the big sign says........MERRY CHRISTMAS!

The crux of the matter is if I want to say Merry Christmas, I will. I'm not going to be shamed or forced into not saying it by an atheist or non-Christian religious faction backed by a front page hungry ACLU attorney because it *offends* them. I've made the mistake of saying Merry Christmas to one of my Jewish friends. She just smiled and said Happy Hanukkah back to me. Why can't we just all do that.

I guess tolerance is a lost art anymore.

"Last year, or maybe it was the year before, Target instructed their people to strike the word "Christmas" from their vocabulary. They didn't have Christmas trees, they had holiday trees. etc...."

I WILL agree wit you on that one point only. The tree SHOULD be called a CHRISTMAS tree because the tree is used by those who celebrate Chrismas. Just like the menorah SHOULD be called the HANUKKAH menorah.

However, in greetings, the other holidays should be recognized. That's why they use the blanket greeting "Happy Holidays".

This is a complicated issue and it really doesn't matter. It's just another pointles and meaningless distraction made up by the Religious Right to distract Americans from a real issue like the war an also to incite hate and anger agaisnt the "Secular Progressives", "Liberals" and "Democrats". They use things like "the war on christmas" to make outrage and impose their religious beliefs and holidays on others. Imposing religious beliefs, now who does that sound like?

No one is trying to stop you from saying Merry Christmas

But overtly Religious holidays do not belong at the work place-because there are people of other faiths and belief who want a comfortable work environment- Also customers who are not of that religion may not want to shop at a store if it is overly religious in nature.
