I am an old timer. I raised my kids in the 60-70's. I was raised in the 40-50's.
I am conservative as far as raising kids. When I raised mine we had certain rules. No honkey-tonks--no dancing, no dating until 14 (or so)---and then the 'dating' was controlled...like we take you and pick you up--no sleeping around --even if you are 18 -19---as long as you are in my house--(hell, we did not even talk about 'sleeping around')-- no drinking, no drugs, no weed, no smoking cigarettes, and church three times a week, and studied hard in school.
That's pretty much how I was taught. My kids turned out pretty good I suppose. None of them have been to jail or prison--and none of them ever got on drugs. All of them do drink alchohol---the boys like their beer and my girl likes her wine. They don't go to church regularly--and one questions if there is a Higher Power.
When my wife's grandkids come (7 and 9) it's like D-Day. Running to and fro, all the tv's hooked up to play-stations and always going somewhere...like to the movies...etc trying to find something to keep them 'entertained'. The nine year old tells his Momma where to 'get off' sometimes and the 7 year old has this temper that gets him in anger management. The Momma and Daddy don't believe in too much harsh correction---and believe the kids should 'say what they feel'.
My second wife and I (20 years together) raised HER kids the same way I was raised.
So, we see some divergence here in our history and our genetics---or something.
Y'All tell me what it is?
