On such a special day that celebrates the memory of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. I find it very disrespectful and appaling that Mayfield Heights still has it's doors open. Federal, State, and Counties all over the United States are closed. Shame on you Mayfield Heights for disrespecting the legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Your city officials owe the citizens of this country an explanation.

Maybe they think they're a private industry employer who still has to go to work today.

With all due respect to MLK JR. the world does not cease to stop going just because it is his day. Do really think that just because other counties are closed they are doing something to memorialize MLK JR? All it is to people is a freebie day off and nothing more. With the exception of banks, schools, and government agencies everyone else is open and operating. I personal think there is more we can do to show our respect to MLK JR than a day off.

Wilsarf, well maybe you do not think that Martin Luther King did anything for you, yet he did for the country. Many people that have done for the "people" (all people, black, white, asian, chineese, japaneese, indians) need to have a special day. You may not think it is important. Yet that is something for my son, my husband, my mother-in-law and made it important for many people. If it was not for Garret Morgan, who made the "stop light" how would you stop by the traffic light or when you have surgery or the fireman to go into a house and able to wear the "gas mask" it was for Garrett Morgan and on July 21, 1977 a black man invented the "cell phone" he was not able to tweek what it needed, yet he invented the cell phone. The sole of your shoes was invented by a black man, a golf ball was invented by the black man. A lot of the southern food was invented by a black race. It is horrible that people still think the way you do about holidays that do not mean anything to you. And if that was not your intention to mean that,(as to you say "why do you care" becasue the schools was open, the person wanted to express what Martin Luther King did for our country) please next time state that. There are a lot of people who feel the same way I do. Really interesting to read the "1000 black Inventors" and some good reading. There was a man at my high school and a man who taught at the cleveland schools back in the 60's who taught black history and was very good at. He was a white man. He was more informative than the black man!! Please do not be ignorant, many people can be

ignorant and that is due to not knowing the proper information, because they do not want to take the time to read and put the information in their minds. Just sad, because Martin Luther King broke the barrier for all races. He had a dream and the dream was not to have everyone fight againist each other, or the black race to kill one another, we are to love each and everyone and he was doing the mission that God wanted him to do and that was to teach te gosspel. Just information you and everyone needs to know about.

"Disrespecting" is not word, btw. It should read "is being disrespectful to".

I realize that requires a little more energy, but please give it a try. :)

To any one that has an open mind, of course we know that the world does not stop, just because of M.L.K day or any other day. The reason is a matter of simple respect for what this man has done. This day should be celebrated around the world, if you took the time to read his I Have A Dream speech it included people of the world, black man, white man, jews and gentiles, prodestants and catholics will be able to sing that old negro spiritual free at last free at last thank GOD almighty we are free at last. His meaning of freedom is the freedom to love your neighbor and fellow man or woman.
