It angures me as an auto worker. That we can bail out the high paying excutives that screwed up the finance industry. Yet Congress and the Senate put the auto industry on hold for another week. now dont get me wrong. I feel the auto industry put this mess on thier own lap. Big facy bonus,s to people not worth 10,s of millions of dollars, plus thier salary,s. People say us auto workers make to much money. Thats funny because I certainly dont make $20 million dollars a year. Seems if you go to college, you automaticly figure your worth millions. I can tell you this from experiance. Try being a production worker. Try standing in front of a machine for 8 hours, never moving, never talking, never taking a 2 minute breather, then tell me I make to much. The problem with the auto industry isnt just the cars coming from over seas. Its the excutives that make decisions to keep building gaint trucks, SUV,s and vehicles nobody wants nor can afford. My first suggestion to Congress and the Senate is. Yes you do need to help out the auto industry. BUT, on different terms. One. Nobody takes home millions of dollars a year anymore. You think of how many cars need to be sold just to make one mans salary. Two. Management starts carrying thier own weight. We UAW members stamp, load, carry, assemble and produce a product while mangement figures out a way to make us work harder. Its time they start carrying thier own weight. No more one manager per factory. With todays electronics. One person can run 2 3 4 plants from one. You want that $350.000.00 a year, you,ll have to change your ways as we UAW workers have. I will say this. If the Government doesnt help the auto industry? I dont think people realize the impact it will truely have on this country. Your not talking a few thousand people out of work. Your talking millions and millions. Your talking shops building parts, interior shops, wiring shops, tires, steel, plastic, right down to the auto dealers and mechanic,s. Your talking millions and millions of people out of work. The auto industry needs help yes, BUT, the days of millions of dollars in salaires MUST END.

Cyclone - I agree that individually, a compensation package for an executive on the operating committee does not compare to an individual union compensation package but under no circumstance can you compare the job responsibilities. I agree with you that these executives must make concessions too - taking a chartered jet to meet with congress - can you say dum de dum dum!

BUT...The UAW must make concessions too. Ford Motor (for example) employs roughly 54,000 UAW workers that earn an excellent yearly compensation package which includes one of the finest benefit packages in the United States. You stated "try being a production worker - stand at a machine for hours, never talking, never moving, never talking, never taking a 2 minute breather". NO WAY would you as a union employee, protected under a contract, not take your required lunch and personal breaks. Your day consists of 8 hours - more hours if YOU choose - at overtime rates. I know many people that would glady take your job and compensation package but I know few people that would want the "headache" and job committments of an automotive executive...regardless of their pay.

You make some good points cyclone.
On the other hand you must surely understand how Americans feel about bailing out companies who can't manage their businesses properly.

65cyclone I agree with you. People don't understand the magitude of what an Auto Industry failure will do to this country. They are not seeing the big picture of the supplier industries attached to the Auto Industry. They don't realize that some of those same suppliers may also be a supplier to the companies they work for. So as the Auto Industry falls, so does the suppliers and the other customers of those suppliers and it will trickle all the way down to a lot more companies and businesses then people realize. I hope people will do some research on the impact of the auto industry failure on the country and other people not directly tied to the auto industry. There will be a rude awakening.

Things around the country are already bad. The factory that my husband worked at makes oil pans for Ford, it's about to close. They will probably open as something else. Johnson Controls that makes the seats for Ford is barely hanging on. I have worked in places where I had to stand right by my machine. It was a part of the job.
